“Well, as long as you knew,” Richie laughs and it’s a strangled sound, genuine but bitter, and Eddie knows Richie isn’t laughing at him. “As long as you knew that I wasn’t… too busy for you.”

“Yes, Richie,” Eddie meets his eyes, “I’m well aware which one of us is the asshole here.”
“That’s not what I meant,” Richie says but he looks away, so it was.

The available data was this:
Richie had a history of hiring escorts. Male escorts. Like, for sex. For gay sex, with men. This confirmed at least one of Eddie’s hopes, even as rage filled him at the way Richie’s manager and supposed friend had let that slip in front of a stranger.
Richie deserved better. Eddie was going to tear Steve to fucking shreds if their paths ever crossed again.
Apparently, the escorts Richie hired all had some traits in common with Eddie. A lot of traits. A suspicious amount of very specific traits.
The list-style description that Steve had rattled off was seared into his brain. It played in his head now, when he looked in the mirror across from the bed.
Short, brown hair, big brown eyes, polo shirt, small build. Bitchy face.
The inevitable conclusion was that Richie wanted to have sex with guys that resembled Eddie, but not Eddie, himself. This could be for any number of reasons, not the least of which was Eddie’s horrible, abrasive personality. Or multiple disfiguring scars.

When he finally calmed down he heard an intense retching sound coming from the living room. Feeling the faintest traces of empathy creeping into the depths of his damnable heart, he wandered toward the noise.
He saw Eddie kneeled on the floor, doubled over the waste basket (thankfully all of the vomit ended up in the receptacle), shivering and crying. He held his stomach, wincing in pain with traces of vomit on his chin.

Post The Clown 2: No More Funny Business, Richie Tozier is struggling to find his place in the world, and he's not too thrilled about it.
All of his friends have decided to magically resolve an entire lifetime's worth of trauma while Richie wasn't looking, and while, yeah, he's happy for them, Richie isn't too overjoyed to be the odd man out, the only one still affected, the only one not living out a happily ever after scenario.
To make matters worse (better?), Richie's best friend in the entire world, Eddie, decides to be all therapised and mentally healthy and shit, so now Richie really DOES stick out like a sore thumb at a snapping turtle convention -- I mean, if Eddie Kaspbrak can get his shit together, what does that say about Richie?
(Or: Eddie has been in love with his best friend, Richie, for as long as he can remember. He finally confesses, and everything seems to be going really well.
That is, if you consider really well to mean that Richie is still convinced his love for Eddie is unrequited, all the while Eddie thinks their relationship is going along swimmingly.)
