All of Tommy's carefully crafted plans of giving the best first impression (one of which was to puff out his chest, look at his fellow Inspector in the eye and loudly pronounce himself as the Biggest Man who every woman fawns over) have been thrown out the window, mirroring the trash a nearby driver lazily dropped right in his path before speeding off.
Tommy, despite his almost nonexistent athleticism, was able to jump to the side and avoid it-
"FUCK!"
-and walk straight into a street light in his single-minded drive to prove he can make it to the hotel unscathed.

Following Sonic's heroic return to Green Hill and successful foiling of Doctor Eggman's plans to steal the Paradox Prism, the gang returns to the status quo. To them, it was just another one of the Doctor's many failed attempts to take over Green Hill.
To Sonic, it was like they had all forgotten far too soon.
Not made any easier by the unexplained absence of a certain black hedgehog.
