And Mike looked like he would do it. But then, he pulled away. He pried himself out of Will’s grasp, feet landing on the floor, backing away towards the door.
The movement sent alarm through Will. His heart pounded.
“Please. Mike.” Maybe a more articulate request would’ve made him stay, but Will couldn’t seem to form the words. He couldn’t suppress the whimper that escaped his lips.
“It’s okay, I’m just gonna get your mom.” Mike continued to back away. “I’ll be quick.”
Or: Mike has always stayed with Will during his non-sexual heats. The summer before college, Will experiences his first sexual heat. When Mike leaves, Will's inner feels rejected. Due to the accidental rejection, Will struggles to navigate life as he had previously: trusting his inner and following his instincts. He just can't seem to figure out why.

He could see himself from the hips up. Messy brown hair going in three different directions at once, eyelids still heavy with sleep, shoulders slumped forward with the kind of lazy posture his mom had been trying to correct since middle school. He looked like someone who had just been dragged out of a very comfortable dream.
But that wasn't the part that bothered him.
Because underneath all of that, underneath the mess of it, there was something else sitting in his reflection that he couldn't ignore no matter how many times he tried. His hazel eyes were too bright, his lashes too long, his skin too clear, too warm, too glowing. The moles scattered across his face and neck and collarbones that he'd been self conscious about as a kid had somehow become another thing that made him look exactly like what he was. Soft. Pretty. He needed to go home. He needed to lay down someone quiet and get his bearings again.
“What?” The teenager leant his ear closer to Will to hear clearer.
Will swallowed the saliva that kept coming, “I’nee’ta lie downn” He slurred, marginally more comprehensible.
“Lie down?” The guy repeated, looking directly at him as Will tried to focus on his eyes. Will nodded, desperately clenching the front of the guy’s shirt to try and stay balanced. “No worries, come here-“ It took no effort for him to grab Wills weightless arm around his neck and start walking him out of the kitchen.

The first time it happens, Will classifies it as a little accident.
When he wakes, the morning sun is burning through the window onto their faces, and Mike’s cursing as he stands to close the curtains, stumbling all the way.
“Scoot over,” he grumbles, voice dry, and for a second Will can’t do anything other than sigh like a lovesick idiot. It’s a second too late for Mike, because he grumbles more words Will doesn’t catch under his breath and then physically pushes Will towards the wall to lay beside him, arm over Will’s middle. A second of silence passes, then Mike sighs, only to whine: “Fuck, my head hurts.”
Will can’t help it: he breaks down laughing, much to Mike’s offense.

Summary
At first, Mike was unsure how to approach him when he got like this. But they’ve been living together for months now, never further than five feet apart in their dorm beds, so Mike’s learned what works and what doesn’t.
It works when he wakes Will like this, with gentle hands and words, telling him he’s safe. It works when he climbs into Will’s warm bed, turning him on his side and curling up against his back, an arm over his waist and his cheek pressed against his shoulder. They lie together like that until Will’s hiccupping gasps soften into steady breaths, until Mike feels him go limp in his arms and he knows he’s fallen back asleep. It always works.
or: Will has nightmares and Mike is the only one who can console him. Not even Will's boyfriend can. Mike takes great pride in this fact.

It feels like flying too close to the sun. There has to be a point where Mike realizes what’s going on and stops it. Where he realizes that everything is teetering on the edge of being wrong, too far, inexcusable. What will the final straw be? What is the thing that Will gives in to, far too heartily, with enthusiasm that doesn’t seem platonic anymore.
Will it be something instinct based? A moment where Will can’t stand the way his scent clings to his clothing or how everything blooms when Mike stretches his neck for the fiftieth time in an hour? Or is it just one of those moments where he crouches down and looks up at him despite being several inches taller, that makes Will snap and say something – or worse – do something.
Would Mike be disgusted? Perturbed? Uncomfortable? Would he pretend it's not a big deal and simply pull away slowly? That one would hurt the most.
And then Will remembers El, and his thinking breaks down ever further.
Mike has a girlfriend. It would be stupid. It would be counterproductive. It would be reckless and mean and wrong. Ultimately wrong.
