The job seemed simple enough at the time.
What Techno was told is that he was going after nobles. Nobles, in their fancy little chariots underneath the soothing moonlight of midnight. Nobles, which are surely important to the empire in some sort of way, but not so much that they can’t be replaced.
Nobles, who’s heads always end with Technoblade getting paid well and having a few weeks for time off.
These are not simple nobles. Technoblade is getting scammed.
(Or, Assassin!Technoblade gets a job to kill sbi. He's like "That's definitely not in my paygrade" but he ends up getting their attention anyway, and he's got his own secrets to keep...)

Summary
Technoblade has had many homes before. The commune, his little potato farm, the empire. Even before the empire, he had a home. Though he couldn't remember it, he knew it was true. That feeling of safety couldn't come from nowhere. Was it somewhere in the nether, where the heat and sulfur make it hard to breath? Was it the exact opposite, snow and ice, fresh air and warm jackets? He didn't know.
All he could remember was snow crunching underfoot as he ran from monsters, and calling out names he couldn't remember. He could feel the fear coursing through his veins turn to anger. Then, he was standing in the snow, the bodies of monsters lay below him.(I'd suggest reading the first book, but if you want to just read this, you can, but may be a bit confused)

A man leaned on the gate over him, carefully lined up against his property border, hands folded behind his back. His face, back lit as it was, looked perfect; sharp features, cat-like tilted eyes, a light, playful, perfect smile painted over his face. Everything about him looked lithe, from the way his legs pressed daintily under him or his torso bent and twisted over with a playful tilt. Dark curls bounced just above his eyes, framing their shocking gold perfectly.
“I don’t think we’ve met. Can I have your name?” he asked, folding one hand out from behind his back and extending it towards Techno.
“I’m afraid I don’t usually give it out to strangers.”
Or: Techno meets a fae. It doesn’t go like expected.

"Where I come from, people don't have multiple lives, Tubbo. Not where I come from..."
Technoblade had always been a figure of mysterious origin. The self-proclaimed Blood God had seemingly come out of thin air, quickly making a name for himself and gaining fear and respect from every server he'd joined. Over the years, he'd taken down countless tyrannies and razed hundreds of corrupt kingdoms, but no one truly knew where he came from. Only Philza, the Angel of Death, had that answer, though it was something the old man joked that he'd take to his grave.
Thus, the mystery of Technoblade's origin sat, unknown. If anyone actually pressed the question further though (no one did), they'd find that his backstory had never really been a secret. It was just embarrassing and complicated, so he avoided talking about it if he could.
(After all, Terrance Smith, the college student from Minnesota, was kind of a lame origin for the infamous Blood God…)
