Summary
Technoblade is a fighter. Surviving in this world only by cutting down those around him with little regard for who they are.
It is what makes him useful. And he’s only survived this long by being useful.
His handlers tell him that it is almost as if he was born to fight. The voices tell him that he was.
They tell him a lot of things, but that’s the one that has always made the most sense to him. Fighting has been a constant in his life, ever since he entered this world. It’s only natural that it’s his entire purpose. Techno thinks that makes sense.
Techno doesn’t remember much of before.
Now, he fights. That’s all he’s good for. If he’s not winning, he’s not useful. If he’s not useful, he’s not alive. It’s not the best, but it’s what he’s used to. It’s the mindset that’s allowed him to get this far, after all.
And then the Angel of Death shows up in the stands and ruins everything by caring.

Kristin glances out the window. It’s raining- not hard, but it’s no light sprinkle, either. It’s chilly, and Techno can’t afford to get sick.
But he asked. Techno- scared, shy Techno- asked for something he wants. They did buy him rain gear- bright blue boots and a shiny yellow coat that’s probably too big for him- and if he wears enough layers, and doesn’t stay out too long, and if she gets him warmed up later, there’s no reason he shouldn’t have the quintessential childhood experience of jumping in puddles.
After all, Techno is only twelve years old. He has so much playing to catch up on.Series

A door creaks behind him. Techno goes silent, dropping his head and flattening his wings like a good little pet.
It’s a good thing he did, because it’s the master’s laugh behind him, the master’s thick fingers dragging through his hair. “Good boy,” he murmurs roughly. “You’ll be good, right?”
Techno doesn’t move, knowing he’s not supposed to.
The other avian makes a harsh clicking sound. “Get your filthy hands off him,” he hisses.
“I think you’re very mistaken as to who’s in charge here.” The master tangles his fingers in Techno’s hair, tugging harshly. “Here’s what’s going to happen. Tonight, I’m having a little gathering. Techno feels really, really bad. He always feels bad, all floaty and weird, but he feels really especially bad now. He doesn’t know where he is and his head hurts and his tummy feels twisty and gross.
He stares at the TV, because he can’t move even a little tiny bit. He doesn’t have a TV in his room… maybe Ms. Judy put him on the couch? He doesn’t know what show is on, though. It’s bright and colorful, but he can’t really see it very well.
He thinks he hears people talking. Then someone is holding his hand, and he looks over- or tries to, anyway.

Phil had always considered himself a fairly responsible person.
He would’ve said he was on top of things and got stuff done when it needed to happen.
Now was not the best example of that.
There were 5 days until Christmas and he had most of his shopping done. Most of his shopping is done. He got everything for his boys, friends, and coworkers. He even assembled dozens of small gift baskets for the boy's teachers.
Yet somehow, he still had not gotten his lovely wife anything for Christmas. Since the kids depended on his money and transportation services, they also had not gotten their mother anything.
That’s how Phil found himself in the car with his three kids early on a Saturday morning....
Or, Phil and his three gremlins do a bit of holiday shopping.

Distantly, he sees a figure laden with blood-stained armour. It's the blond warrior from earlier, jostling his own comrades away. Techno couldn't picture a single situation where his own execrated enemy would voluntarily save him.
“Stop it!” the blond warrior shrieks in a shrill voice—one that Techno would have never expected from such an unnerving person. “You lot are madmen! That is a child. You're beating the shit out of a child, for Prime’s sake!"

Wilbur had tucked a lily behind his ear then—one that was the colour of the creeping dawn, and the scent of early morning dew on the humid bark of the tree they'd built a tiny fort on.
And never, not even once did he think that that would become a tradition between him and his brother.

He once tried asking his father, the king, why some birds have strings tied to their feet. But all the man he's grown to call ‘Your Majesty’ and never ‘Papa’ did was make sure he'd never ask again.
But Techno was curious. So he did, he did ask again.
It ended with him being locked in a cellar with a racing heart and a bruise on his cheek. That story is one he'll choose to forget anyday.
That's why he talks to Phil, even if the crow, of course, never utters anything back. He walks the bird through how his day went, and how it's going to go for the following weeks. Monotonous. Painfully monotonous.

He could only watch as the bullet shot out. He shut his eyes, waiting for the pain.
It never came.
He blinked his eyes open, shocked to find his sights obscured by a broad-shouldered back. A flowing red cape, frazzled pink hair, heavy metal armor, and a broadsword. The figure turned around. His mysterious savior had a mask on; a creepy boar skull attached to his face by leather straps.
“Who--?” Tommy couldn’t even finish the thought before the very sword that saved his life descended down on him in an arc. Tommy jerked away, only to find that he didn’t even need to. It had been aimed for the man holding him.
“You’re better than this, Theseus,” the masked man chided in a gruff, familiar voice. One he thought would’ve been foreign by now. “You never should’ve let him grab you like that.”

or, Tommy and Techno are sworn brothers constantly at odds with each other. But only because they care so much. Not that they would say anything.

Summary
Technoblade was always fascinated with knights. The way their armour gleamed, the colors reflected off of it. Their swords, the skill in which they were wielded.
The respect that came with the role. He longed to feel that, to feel like he mattered.
But he couldn’t become a knight, not a true one. He’s a peasant, through and through, a by product of a corrupt system. He’s forced to stay as a (thankfully literate) blacksmith’s apprentice, though he doesn’t actually do much other than the heavy lifting.
Eventually, he finds a (slightly bloody and majorly damaged) suit of armor near an injured horse and decides that he can be a knight. No one will know he’s not a real knight, and he can compete in the competitions just like the other knights do.
So he does.
He becomes a knight.
