After they acquire their new pilot from a mental institution, it takes Face - conman extraordinaire who relies heavily on being able to read people immediately and use it to his advantage - some time to get to grips with who Murdock is. The person he discovers is quite possibly the best human being he's ever met, however much care Murdock might need sometimes (and often because of it). Face considers five qualities about Murdock that make him who he is, as he comes to know and love his best friend.

Summary
Jim has been rescued from a mission gone terribly wrong, in which the captors tortured him in unknown ways, about things that even Jim's closest crew members could not even begin to imagine. In the erupting chaos around them, Spock and Bones come to realise that Jim's greatest hope for recovery is for Spock to do what only he is capable of, and go with Jim wherever it is in his mind that is causing such trauma. In order for that to happen however, Bones must keep Jim alive - and prevent this increasingly horrific situation from destroying them all, quite literally, from the inside out.

Jim wouldn’t have ever believed it in a million years if he hadn’t seen it for himself, hadn’t made the unfortunate life choice to go buy donuts and then decide to use the lock code Bones had given him for emergencies only Jim, and if you abuse that right I have no problem using your skinny ass as a pin cushion. Really, it’s his own fault he’d just walked right into the hottest thing he’d ever seen in his life.

Jim took several steps forward, his lethargy evaporating in an instant, eyes huge and blue. “You were asked to hold a lecture, right? The kind that’ll be broadcast back to Starfleet?”
“Who told you?”
“M’Benga,” Jim said smugly. That traitor.
“Damnit. Yeah, I’ve been asked,” he admitted reluctantly. “Didn’t say I’d do it.”
“They asked you to include a practical demonstration, didn’t they?”
“Jim…” Leonard straightened fully and regarded Jim with badly disguised confusion. Jim was normally a little loopy after heat, but this was another level. “Tell me you’re not about to try to wriggle your way into this. This isn’t the scouts, Jim. You can’t volunteer to participate in a lecture.”
“They asked you to do a lab demonstration, right? You can’t do it without an omega. I’ll be the patient.”

Jim gets a little gussied up.
The dress is too tight.
It’s too tight and too short and cut too low. It pulls in at the slutty cut of Jim’s waist, making that feature all the more pronounced, while the sharp v from the top almost reaches up as high as the slit clinging to Jim’s left thigh.

When Jim and Bones are thrown together on the shuttle, there's something at first sight. It takes longer for them to get past each other's defenses.
Jim couldn’t help but grind his hips against Bones at that, couldn’t hold back the sharp intake of breath that betrayed just how badly he wanted this. Still, it was Bones who’d had the long shift, Bones who was too tired to eat when he’d gotten home that night. “You’re the one who needs taking care of, though,” Jim protested feebly.
“Here’s a little secret about me,” Bones said, kissing his way down Jim’s neck. “My favorite way to relax? Taking care of someone else. Preferably,” he said, sucking at a bit of skin that Jim knew would just barely be covered by his cadet uniform, “someone who makes noises as pretty as that.”
Jim stopped trying to swallow the whine that was escaping him, letting Bones hear the effect he was having.
