But that’s different. The first time he presses record in this place is to tell a boy he’s cute. Just - truth, yeah. Flirting a little bit, maybe. They were just kind of… dancing around each other, both clumsy with inexperience (ironic, when he’s a dancer).
The next time he presses record is nothing at all like that, except it is. He doesn’t press send on this one, for one thing. No, he’s taking this to his grave. Heh, literally.

So that was what it was: a big coincidence. Still, Jiang Cheng had come. There was a warm fuzzy feeling blooming in Wei Wuxian's heart because of that. He wanted to squash it down and to water it and watch it grow, both in equal measure.
"Lucky me, then. I was expecting to be saved by some no-name, lower-level cultivators, but look who came to rescue me! Sandu Shengshou himself! I'm flattered."
While saving Wei Wuxian's sorry ass from a pack of wild, resentful dogs and their once exiled and slightly vengeful caretaker, Jiang Cheng takes on a curse that wasn't meant for him. It puts things into perspective.

It wasn’t fair. How could this happen? Wei Wuxian hissed through his teeth as he yanked a wavy petal from underneath the nail on his left pinky, pain stinging down his hand as it came out speckled with blood.
He stuck his finger into his mouth, cleaning off the dripping blood from his now splintered fingernail and glared harshly at the yellow petal. He didn’t know this one yet. He thought he was over plucking petals and thorns from his body. That part of his life was supposed to be over.
Wei Wuxian sighed loudly as he took his pinky out of his mouth and caught another petal along the edge of his right thumb. It was going to be a long night.
