Summary
"Down in whatever cellar a man keeps the thoughts he has never once let up the stairs, something spoke that had no business speaking at all:
If I could just keep my eyes closed. If, starting now, I never had to see any of it again—"When thirty years of forged piety suddenly collapse into a blinding, psychosomatic dark, a retired football icon flees the hollow worship of his congregation and the stifling devotion of his home. Guided only by a white cane and the wreckage of his own making, he escapes halfway across the world to a desert sanctuary on the outskirts of Riyadh.
There, in seven quiet, unsanctioned days with the former lover who alone remembers the living flesh behind the Sunday sermons, he confronts the silent hell of his long-buried truth—discovering what it truly costs, and what it means, to break a life built on holy lies to find peace with God, with love, and with himself.

Summary
“And you know that I hate all these empty phrases like 'the one' but at the time it did feel different. I was - I was fucking starstruck, I was – I felt a like a teenager with a crush again, and half the time I didn’t even realise because it just felt natural, it felt right.”
“Did she - was it unreciprocated?” Luka questioned him.
“I don’t think it was reciprocated.”
“You don’t think?”
“I never said anything.”
The admission was so unlike Sergio that Luka felt his heart hurt a little bit for his friend, who was usually so expressive and straightforward.

Summary
Luka had his soulmark removed and now there’s only a fake name tattoo in its place.
“Look me in the eye,” Sergio repeats slowly. “And tell me you don’t have my name.”
“I don’t have your name, Sergio,” Luka says evenly. It’s true, after all.
He doesn’t have Sergio’s name. Not anymore.
