There’s a weird moment then, where Max does put the jacket on, and then kind of just– deflates into it. Realistically, Daniel isn’t that much larger than him, but he likes his clothing a bit oversized, and it settles nicely around Max. They look at each other, and Max’s eyes go a bit half-lidded with what looks like contentment. Daniel tells himself he must just be finally warm, and ignores the matching feeling in his own chest.
Daniel never does get his jacket back. He doesn’t mind for some reason.
(Or: Daniel tries to court Max by accident, stops himself because Max is a beta and doesn't even know what he wants, and then finds out neither of those things are true. Well. Second chances, right?)

“That’s not going to be a problem,” Hanbin averts his gaze, suddenly finding the texture of the wall fascinating. He doesn’t know what drives him to admit a secret he hasn’t even told Matthew, but then the words are spilling out of him before his brain can catch up. “I haven’t been in a relationship since college and that’s probably not going to change any time soon.”
“Bad breakup?” Jiwoong surmises.
That’s one hell of an understatement. Hanbin’s smile is rueful as he says, “Bad enough that I haven’t been able to date anyone since. Everyone around me is happily taken or engaged, and here I am still hung up on someone from six years ago.”
Or, in the six years since Hanbin ripped his heart out of his own chest and watched Hao break it into pieces, he's dreamt of different ways their story could've ended and countless circumstances under which they might meet again. He just wasn't expecting the reality to be finding Hao all these years later as his new roommate's fuckbuddy. -
