Viktor’s life has prepared him for a great many things, just not for the particular situation of accidentally walking in on Jayce—his roommate, best friend, and unfortunately also the very heterosexual object of Viktor’s very homosexual desires—jerking off naked in bed.
That is as unexpected as it is agonizingly awkward but at least something Viktor could rectify by graciously laughing it off as the perils of university roommateship. A funny story for them both to have a hearty chuckle about afterwards.
However, the part that will make this difficult is that Jayce isn’t in his own bed.

“Jayce…” Viktor warns, more to himself than to the other man. He can feel his already slippery grip on the situation weakening.
“C’mon, V. I’ll be good, I promise! I’ll keep my hands to myself, I won’t take candy from strangers, and if it’s too much, we can leave.”
Jayce keeping his hands to himself is not the thing he was worried about. It’s everybody else who wouldn’t be able to keep their hands away from him. They descend on topsiders like piranhas when presented with the opportunity. Their naïveté precedes them. Viktor has seen men and women undone by hands and tongues in mere minutes, and they’re not too keen on stopping before they’ve had more than their fill.
It’s so lawless, even for the undercity, that the only way to assure Jayce’s sanctity would be to put him in a fucking tag.
…Now there’s a thought.

Jayce has run through the proof he’s collected many times to assure himself that this is a fact based on evidence and reason— that Vikor does eat— despite Jayce rarely actually seeing him do so. Viktor just has… poor habits. Worrying habits.
Or: Jayce worries about Viktor and does what any normal, good lab partner would do, and dedicates a totally normal and not absurd amount of time and effort to cook for him.

He’ll use thick coats of soil, layers upon layers cascading, guarding. His heart will be so deeply bigraded, maybe he won’t even be able to find it himself.
Big smiles are his trademark, and who’s to say they can’t be used as a shield? As a weapon toward himself? He’s been so patient before, waiting for knocking of shoulders to become friendly and snarls to become smirks. Why ruin it with something as selfish as love?
