Summary
Imagine the love of your life died two weeks before you were supposed to get married. Four years later, you move to a new town and you see him again, standing in the bread aisle of the only grocery store around.
This is the position Dean Winchester finds himself, four years after his fiance Cas (now going by the name "Emmanuel Allen") supposedly died. Cas is insistent that Dean stays away from him, but Dean's not letting Cas go again without getting answers-- and it doesn't hurt that his not-dead ex-fiancee is still really hot.
Title is a reference to "right where you left me" by Taylor Swift

Summary
It’s been several months since the events of 15x19, and the world is at ease. Dean Winchester isn’t, though.
It takes a drunken night and a conversation with Sam for the Winchesters and a newly depowered Jack to start working on a way to get to the Empty to bring back Castiel, their angel best friend. After several weeks, the team enlist the assistance of the new Queen of Hell and find a spell. With Rowena’s help, Cas is finally back, alive, and for a moment everything looks brighter. Jack and Sam are ecstatic, and Dean’s had enough time to figure out what he wants to tell Cas. He’s ready to speak his truth.
Except, Cas doesn’t seem to recognize Jack, and the first thing he does is ask Dean how he’s managed to get rid of the mark. He doesn’t remember that Chuck, the flimsy prophet he met years ago, was God and that they just beat his ass. Actually, there’s a lot he doesn’t remember… Including telling Dean he loved him before getting taken by the Empty.
Now starts a different quest- figuring out what’s keeping a newly human Cas from remembering the past 5 years by their side, and helping him regain the memories he’s lost.
Of course, as is custom for Winchesters, nothing goes as planned.

Summary
Brittle and battle-worn, Cas looks at him over coffee one morning and says, "I need to go," and Dean instantly knows that he's not coming back.
He's not really sure how he knows it, but he does. It settles into the pit of his stomach, curling hot and tight like something he instinctively wants to tear out with his bare hands. He takes a breath, and it gets stuck in his throat, hitching there. It hurts, hurts, hurts when he finally exhales.
"Yeah," Dean says, "of course you do," and he nods jerkily as he looks down at his phone. He doesn't say goodbye. He doesn't look up from the screen when Cas gets up and leaves the room. He doesn't finish his coffee, or move for a long time.
By nightfall, Cas is gone.

As much as Dean hates him for that, the longer he sticks around, the more he begins to threaten that first rule too. Dean’s been taught his whole life that those who play hockey should not be captivated by deep accented voices and the way a guy handles his stick, so how the hell is he supposed to justify what he’s starting to think about Cas? When telling hadn't worked, he'd tried showing Cas how he felt. Hell, he’d even made a mix tape. Sadly, Cas had missed the point completely. And now, Lucifer has killed him.
With Cas having been given a hunters wake, the boys are back in the bunker and searching for a way to get Mary back. They've also got to figure out what to do about Jack who is literally the spawn of Satan. As Dean grieves the loss of his angel, he decides that if he's ever lucky enough to have Castiel gifted back to him again, he will forget all about trying to tell, or even show Cas how he feels. Instead, he'll do something he's never done before... he'll give his angel reasons to stay.

Dean wakes up in bed next to a very human Castiel, and a journal in his own handwriting that tells him it’s two years in the future. The house looks a lot like Bobby’s, and Sam lives there too… He just can’t remember how they got from angels falling in the sky – to comfortable domesticity.
While there is much in the journal Dean doesn’t remember, there is much of their story he’s always known. And as he settles into the routine of his new life and relationship with Castiel, it quickly becomes something he doesn’t know how to live without.

But that’s the whole reason he’s here, isn’t it? He’s not out here hunting Humans. He’s not even hunting deer, or bears, or anything else that featured in Bambi. He’s out here, freezing his nuts off every night, because he’s hunting Angels.
Sometimes Dean wishes that Angels were like how they’re described in the Bible. How people from time too old for him to care much about thought Angels were messengers and warriors of God, protectors of Humans. He knows that how they’re really described in the Bible is actually pretty terrifying, but at least they were told by God that they’re supposed to love Humans, right?
That’s a thousand times better than what Angels really turned out to be.
