Summary
Sereda Aeducan would have made a good Warden, if the Joining chalice hadn't claimed her as it claimed so many others.
Without her, Alistair climbed the Tower of Ishal alone, and was rescued from certain death, alone. Uncertain and unwilling to step up, he lets himself be pushed and pulled between Morrigan and her mother, a puppet dancing to their tune. Ferelden needs a hero, but it's stuck with him.
Leliana wants to help. Sten wishes to find purpose. Zevran expects to die. Oghren just wants another drink. How do the companions do without a force of nature like the Warden to hold them together? And how far into the dark will Alistair fall before he can't find his way back?
A first in a series of Dragon Age AUs asking what happens to the fate of Thedas if there's no hero driving the story and it's all down to the Companions. A warning - these will get dark.

Summary
Dain Cadash survived the Blight, somehow, and now he's responsible for rebuilding the Ferelden Wardens all alone.
It's a terrible idea, even as he sets off for Vigil's Keep with Harding - his first recruit - and Lucanis, who is delaying heading for Haven on the Chantry expedition for a few more weeks to stay at Dain's side. They arrive to find the Keep under attack, and a strange talking darkspawn in command.
There's a Dalish mage who's escaped the Circle and may or may not have killed her Templar captors, and a resentful noble in the cells. Neither are happy to join Dain, but it's better than the alternatives.
Still, something strange is happening with the darkspawn, and Cadash needs all hands on deck to navigate the twin threats of the Mother and the Architect.

Summary
Malcolm Hawke had three kids and a stubborn determination to reach Kirkwall.
Lothering had been home for ten long years, the longest he'd been anywhere of his own choosing. He had roots in the village in a way he'd never had before - there were friends, drinking buddies, people who respected his advice about herbalism and botany.
He'd watched Leandra's funeral pyre in the grounds of the Chantry, Bethany clutching his hand, Carver holding hers. Garrett had stood a little way off, watching the pyre burn with the same aching grief. Three kids, two of them who took after him when it came to magic. One who looked like him, joked like him, loved like him. And one who looked so much like her mother it hurt to look at her some days.
When the Blight first crept out of the Wilds, Malcolm knew they had to go.
An AU where Malcolm Hawke is the surviving parent and gets them as far as Kirkwall before the shadow of the Gallows is too long to avoid. Follows Garrett Hawke trying to constantly piece himself back together as he loses his family one by one.

Summary
Garrett Hawke knew what he was: a good mage. He also knew that that wasn't enough. Not in Kirkwall, not anywhere.
Burdened by the death of his father and sister and constantly confronted with a weakened Veil in his new city, the certainties that Hawke built his life on have crumbled. As Carver drifts towards the Templars and he befriends dangerous mages he can't help but wonder how long it will take him to falter too.
But he knows the dangers of the Circle, knows what awaits him in the Gallows. When Ketojan suggests mages might be happier under the Qun, it is a thought that grows within him, taking root.
He will never be the same again.

Summary
“Nox - do everyone a favour and shut up?” Freya responded, before switching her attention back to Cullen. “I apologise for my brother, Knight-Captain, he likes to pick fights to make himself feel taller.”
Malcolm and Leandra Hawke loved each other dearly and didn’t know when to quit.
Their oldest, Freya, is tired of being the reasonable one. The one trying to hold the family together whilst cracking jokes to remind everyone it’s not that serious.
It is that serious for Aspen. Kirkwall is no joke for a mage. Especially when your twin brother finds trouble, and Templars, around every corner. Aspen and Lennox Hawke came into the world together. They might very well take each other out of it again - and every one agrees it would be Nox’s fault.
And then there’s the other twins - or at least, the one that survived the flight from Lothering.

Summary
“Get the fuck out of my city, Lord Seeker.”
Hawke would come to regret those words when Lord Seeker Lambert turned his gaze to Kirkwall in the wake of the revolt at the White Spire. There was an old grudge to settle, and a rogue apostate to make an example of. For the third time in seven years, Kirkwall burned, the Gallows tearing itself apart under the Seekers.
In Val Royeaux, the Left and Right Hands of the Divine shelter Hawke from the wrath of the Order, and talk of the Inquisition reborn. Hawke has no desire to be Inquisitor, but his old friend Ailsa has disappeared and no one else is taking a stand. Reluctantly, he and Fenris agree to head to Haven, and the Temple of Sacred Ashes - where everything changes.

Summary
“Changes things, doesn’t it? What could he have done, Seeker, if he’d lived? I guess we’ll never know.”
Hawke braced himself and pushed the door open. The words were hoarse and scratchy from his throat, his vocal chords long since damaged.
“She didn’t kill me. Although most days, I wish she had.”
The City of Kirkwall needed a Champion but as the crisis escalated, Garrett Hawke disappeared. Some whispered foul play, some whispered cowardice. No-one, not even his best friends, knew the truth.
With the Mage Rebellion in full swing and the Nevarran Accord shattered, Cassandra Pentaghast turned her eyes on the City of Chains and its missing hero. But the man she found at the end of her pursuit was hardly recognisable as the man he’d been - and certainly not able to lead the Inquisition.
Except, with that mark in his hand, he’s the only one who can.

Summary
The woman paused, looking at him. Looking at the staff.
“You ain’t one of those -”
“No,” Garrett lied, “Just travelling through.”
Garrett Hawke survived Kirkwall and Knight-Commander Meredith by the skin of his teeth. Hiding in Ferelden in the aftermath, he tried to remember the person he had been before he’d sold his integrity to the Templars. Before he’d lost everything from his twin sister to his final chance to make things right with Fenris.
When the Mage Rebellion began he had no intention of joining the fight. But a letter of warning from Varric, combined with the possibility of seeing Bethany again pulled him towards the Conclave - and into the path of the Inquisition and their Herald.

Summary
Hawke swayed.
“A Tevinter Supremist Cult, you said?”
“Hmm,” Dorian said, “Following the wishes of some Elder One, who has rather grand plans for ensuring that they succeed in subjugating the whole world to Tevinter. The rebels here in Redcliffe are just the start.”
Kirkwall had never been kind to Hawke, and the night Anders attacked the Chantry remained the single worst night of his life.
The mage rebellion was meant to be better - was meant to be fighting for a future where mages weren’t broken and abused. It wasn’t meant to be filled with cowards, run by leaders unwilling to be bold.
It certainly wasn’t meant to be taken over by the Imperium.

Summary
They had arrived in Skyhold to no fanfare or focus, but that didn’t last long. By nightfall, everyone knew the Champion of Kirkwall was among the Inquisition - alongside her more infamous brother. They caused quite a commotion in the tavern that night. Hawke was delighted to discover he didn’t need to buy a single drink.
“Where’s your sister?” A Charger - Stitches, maybe? - asked as Hawke knocked back a fourth drink.
“In the Chantry, probably, praying with her husband. And Maker, I wish that was a euphemism.”
Bull’s Company fell about laughing and Hawke glowed warmly. He’d found his people once again.
A continuation in the Adventures of Garrett Hawke, Whore of Kirkwall, with a whole new set of targets to charm into his bed.

Summary
Dain Cadash probably shouldn’t be a Warden. He definitely shouldn’t be the last line of defence against the Blight alongside Cassandra, the only other surviving Warden in Ferelden.
He was saved from certain death by a Witch of the Wilds who seemed all too eager to offer her daughter, Bethany, up to the Warden cause. There’s a dog, an Antivan Chantry Brother, and a huge-horned Qunari who calls himself Bull. Together with a Necromantic Circle mage, a very broody ex-Crow, and a red-headed, freckled dwarf the unlikely crew set off to stop the Blight before it is too late.

It started with a joke from Isabela over Wicked Grace.
"So, Dog Lord," she said, teasing the word out as she watched Hawke's reaction, "Anyone ever made good on that and put you in a collar?"
Isabela makes a joke, Hawke reacts. Sebastian sees all and starts plotting.

Summary
In 9:24 Dragon a teenage Dorian was sent to the Mourn Watch by his father to study Necromancy.
Still new to teaching, Emmrich Volkarin assumed that the young Lord Pavus would spend a term studying in the Necropolis, show very little talent, and would disappear back to Tevinter to never be heard from again.
How very wrong he was.
(Or, the greatest slow burn love story ever told between two charming Necromancers).

Hawke looked up with a grin as Sebastian entered the room.
He had his feet up on the table, and the start of an erection already threatening. This, he thought to himself, had been an excellent idea.
"Varric," he said slowly, "Has been called away for an urgent meeting with his editor. And everyone else is running late."
Sebastian smirked and closed the door.
"How… convenient." The Chantry Brother said, "Almost as if you'd planned it this way, Garrett."
Sebastian and Hawke are alone in Varric's room, and Hawke is planning to break the rules. Sebastian is more than happy to indulge him in a little preemptive punishment.

Summary
Across the outpost, Fenris looked up and locked eyes with Hawke.
There was nothing. No flicker of recognition, no hesitation. Hawke stood there in shock, reeling.
It felt as if the elf had reached into his chest and crushed his heart.
Hawke had wanted to end Danarius from the first night Fenris sat in the abandoned manor and spoke of what had been done to him over a bottle of Agregio. Even when they weren’t talking, when everything between them was painful and unsaid, Hawke would have done anything to protect the elf.
He never got the chance, and of all his failures in Kirkwall, it was Fenris who hurt the most. There had been no closure, no finality - just an awful absence at his side.
Until the Inquisition, and the Venatori. Until the Warden Tower in the Approach, where they come face to face again. Except Fenris isn’t Fenris any more. He’s Danarius’ Little Wolf, and he’s entirely on the Venatori side.

Summary
"Sebastian Vael was quite possibly the most boring man to exist in the whole of Thedas," Sebastian read in his delicious Starkhaven accent, "When he wasn't busy praising the Maker, he could be found disapproving of every form of fun available in Kirkwall."
Hawke grinned at that particular line.
"You did disapprove of The Hanged Man -"
"- Because it was terrible, Garrett. They cut the drinks, the food was vile and when Fenris killed Danarius they didn't bother cleaning up the blood, they just threw more sawdust down on the floor. I didn't disapprove of the drinking, or the gambling."
"Or the fighting?"
"Not when you were winning, my love."
Sebastian doesn't agree with his portrayal in Varric's new book. It becomes a game in bed.

“You’re awake. Strong, for a Lowlander.”
“What can I say?” He said, “I’m too stubborn to die.”
After Ostagar, after Carver, Garrett Hawke never expected to return to Ferelden - to the lowlands of his birth.
The Avvar of the Basin took him in, offering him a new life. For ten years, Hawke lived among them, first a welcome guest and then part of the Clan. Lothering, and his family, faded, as he found a new home.
Then the sky split open.

Maheriel should never have found the damn mirror. Tabris would quite happily stab Vaughan again and again, if she could.
Cousland’s family was ripped apart by betrayal, but at least she still had her dog - and a strange, found family of sorts.
Amell just wanted to not be noticed, in the Circle, until Jowan took that option from her. Surana just wanted out, at any cost.
Brosca rather enjoyed her stint in the Provings, showing up the Warrior Caste and pissing off the nobles, but not so much that she’d die for it. Aeducan should have kept his mouth shut around his brother.
Seven recruits with promise. Now, if only all of them could survive the Joining…

Summary
“Maker’s breath, Hawke, what are you doing here?”
In Ferelden, Hawke helped save the world from the Blight. In Kirkwall, he is an apostate struggling to hide.
He crossed the Waking Sea to be with his family, the guilt of abandoning them in Lothering a stronger driver than fear of the Templars. But Hawke hadn’t reckoned on old friends and enemies in the city, hadn’t been prepared for the way his name would spread. All too soon, he is more a liability than an asset when it comes to keeping his family safe.
The Deep Roads expedition might be enough to protect his family, the money offering more security than Hawke’s presence. If he can survive those bloody tunnels for a second time. If he can keep out of Templar hands.

Summary
Hawke swallowed.
And if I make a deal? Will you help stop Meredith?
Laughter filled his head, a sound that sent electricity crackling down his spine. Maker, what was he doing?
I will do so much more than that, Champion.
Knight-Commander Meredith almost won the Battle of Kirkwall - and would have done so, if a desperate, broken Hawke hadn’t resorted to blood magic and a pact with a pride demon.
Crossing that line won the day, but Hawke lost everything. Hounded by Templars and friends alike, he retreated to the Wounded Coast as a wanted man. There, alone and hurting, he tried to resist the call of the demon inside him.
But it already had him in its web, and it is only a matter of time before the Champion of Kirkwall is something else entirely.
