Summary
Everyone knows that parental bonds are the simplest, and first, bonds that are formed in someone's life. They are created practically instantly when skin-to-skin contact occurs between parents and pups for the first time, even if this contact is delayed. Buck knows this. Just like everyone else knows this. Buck also knows that he doesn't have a bond with Margaret and Philip Buckley.
It isn't until he helps a couple deliver their pup on a call and witnesses the bond snap into place that he realizes what it would have taken for there to have never been a bond at all.

Summary
Bobby opens the door and his jaw hits the floor as he comes face to face with Evan. Evan, his son, who was supposed to be safely tucked away in Hershey with his lovely sister and parents, the Buckleys. Evan, who looks like he hasn’t sleep in days and is bearing the weight of the world on his small shoulders.
“So you know who I am,” the kid starts, his words drenched in bitterness. It breaks Bobby’s heart. This is his son. His son, who is glaring at him like he is the scum of the earth.
“Evan –” he starts, but the kid cuts him off.
“Look, I know you gave me up and didn’t want me, but you are my father. I hope you are not too much of an asshole to turn me away now. Please, may I come in? I will be out of your hair soon, I promise.”
Something in Bobby breaks at those words.

The 118 finally learn why Buck is the way he is. Their theory of a cult or a conversion camp was way off. Somehow, though, the reality of being a demi-god isn’t much better.
Buck thought they’d be happier to learn he wasn’t part of a cult.

Summary
Buck had a friend that only he could see for as long as he could remember. They shared thoughts, they shared feelings, and they shared the need to protect those important to them. His parents, however, told him it wasn't normal, wasn't right--they told him to stop pretending. Pretending would mean Danny wasn't real, though, which they very much were. He stopped talking about Danny around them, learned to push his friend away at times, and took the pills his parents gave him in the hopes he'd be a perfect, normal, child. Life at the 118 is anything but normal and that's the way Buck prefers it. He has a purpose and he has a family, even if they don't know about Danny. Then Maddie tells him she invited their parents to visit and the secret Buck has worked so hard to keep is pulled to the light, along with one his family has been keeping as well.
An AU where Daniel's spirit connects itself to Buck at his birth. Goes through a few major Buck events in the earlier seasons, before diverging from canon during the Buckley family visit during Season 4 (i.e. Buck Begins).

Buck took in his words…and then said, “So, you’re…like a superhero?”
Tommy snorted and shook his head.
“Yeah, right. It causes more problems than it helps, to be honest..."

He certainly wasn't expecting to accidentally pick up a child along with his cargo, especially not a weird, traumatized one who keeps screaming in his sleep.

Because that was the point, wasn't it?
Buck didn't know how to be a son because he was never anyone's baby; just a reminder of what his parents had lost.
He knew that, but what scratched the walls of his brain was the annoying thought that crept under his skin and whispered the fateful question: did Bobby also see him as nothing more than what his kids could have been?

Summary
Hen had seen many people come and go throughout her years at the 118. The faces that greeted her upon her arrival had been the worst of all of them (excluding Chimney, of course). A team full of straight white men who didn’t see a place for her to fit among them. It’s better now that Bobby is captain. He hasn’t been here long, roughly 14 months or so, but in that time he’s reshaped what it means to be a member of the 118.
The newest member, Daniel Buckley, was a shroud of mystery. All they knew was what Bobby had told him, that he lived in Pennsylvania and that he has been a firefighter for many years.
Will he ever open up to his new team? Will they get to meet the reason for him leaving his hometown? Will the Buckley's find the family they've been hoping for their entire lives?
