    Dick’s face pulls to a pinched expression, shaking his head slowly. “As much as I’d love to believe you, I can’t. That stuff can’t just be emptied down the drain.”

    The kid’s own face scrunches this time. “Why not?”

    Jason has a feeling this kid doesn’t remember quite as much of his experience in the pit as Jason did himself. With a sudden jolt, Jason realizes this kid might not know he’s dead.

    They say your loved ones come and pick you up when it's time to go. Was that why Richard was here. Peter shouldn't be here, shouldn't watch him die. Richard was dead had been for years. His brother looked no older than the last time he'd seen him 8 years ago, of course he would. Ben was scared. But at least his brother was here. "Richard... will you stay with me?...Richard" he rasped out. He was losing a lot of blood, he was dying and his little brother was here to help him cross that bridge. That was comforting, at least he didn't have to go alone, if only Peter hadn't been there, he didn't want Peter to see him die.
