Summary
A significant injury shakes Ratio and Aventurine’s day to day life, and causes them to ponder and think about what may happen when they lose the other.
Ratio couldn’t be another victim of his lucky streak. But how could Aventurine not allow for Ratio to peel away the masks covering the broken soul underneath. Allowing Kakavasha to grip on with broken fingernails and cling to the feeling of being human. His Ratio was here, injured enough to the point of unresponsiveness. Somehow deep down he wondered if this was payback for what he put the good doctor through all those years ago.

Ratio crossed his arms over his chest and looked away breaking eye contact with the gambler. “You should never rule out death as a possibility.”
“Death?! You think I could have died? By that man?” Aventurine was now turned directly at Ratio. His own voice cracked as he got emotional.
“Or worse!” Ratio made eye contact with him again. “I don’t know the details of what you’ve been through as a …. slave but I know that’s why you avoid sexual intercourse. That man only wanted to use you.”
“How do you know that’s not what I wanted?”
“If it is then you truly are a pathic fool.” Ratio lowered his eyes, and his voice didn’t go above a whisper. “You are worth more than that.”
Aventurine was stunned, then he remembered something when he was in the void.

Summary
When Ratio and Aventurine start to make out, the gambler refuses to take off his flashy jewelry - much to the doctor's annoyance. Only when they get closer does he slowly understand that this may not be a sign of vanity, but a matter of trust and that it is up to him to draw the right conclusions and thus determine the further course of their relationship.

He can't— won't— leave Aventurine's side until he believes this will be a safe area. The place is too exposed to work for a long term shelter, but it will suffice for now. At least until Aventurine is able to walk again.
One last breath. And now it's time for him to work.

“That thing?” Veritas spits out the word, anger boiling in his gut.
“The android,” Sunday says. “You’re an intelligent man, learned doctor. Surely you can see it was trying to use you to lower our guard.”
“Him,” Veritas says. “Him. Not it.”
His attacker lets out a hollow laugh. “Him? That there isn’t a person but a Trojan horse. A pretty facade with rotten insides, ready to open our doors to a horde of others of its kind.”
Veritas’ hands tighten into fists at his side. “You know nothing about him.”
