He moves to take a seat next to Pony and rests a hand on the back of his neck, “What’s goin’ on, kid?”
Pony glances down at the half finished sheet of paper in front of him before looking back up and muttering, “Homework.”
Darry raises an eyebrow, “Didn’t you already finish your work for tonight? I checked it all earlier.”
At this, Pony at least has the decency to look a bit sheepish as he tries to hide from his brother’s stern gaze. “I, uh,” he clears his throat, “I’m sorry, I just forgot to do this one…”
Pony bites his lip, and Darry feels his stomach clench as he notices the tears pooling in his brother’s eyes. He shifts his hand down to squeeze Pony’s shoulder, “Well you can finish it in the morning, okay? C’mon, let’s get you back to bed.”

Ponyboy had always had a thing for water, ever since he was a boy. No matter how hard they tried, his family simply couldn’t get him out of it. When he was four, he made his mother call him “little fish” for the entirety of the annual Curtis Family lake trip. This, of course, led to Soda calling him “seahorse” and once the Curtises began bringing the gang along for trips, the nickname stuck. For years, Ponyboy would spend every minute of the trip in the water, from the minute the truck got parked till the second its wheels began to move again. He felt at home within its cool embrace, free even. The weightless feeling was something he would spend the whole year seeking out, waiting to return and hoping that it would still feel just as magical.

"My mother was born of sea foam," Silena cut him off. "And if you're really who I think you are... you are the sea. You can pull this off," she said and touched his cheek. "Get the bolt. Survive," she said. Percy swallowed.
"What if I can't act the part?" He asked. Silena's expression went blank for a moment. Slowly, she slipped off her bracelet and placed it in his hands.

Ponyboy is kneeling in the still, quiet night between the lifeless bodies of his brothers, handsome faces carved out garishly in crimson and rust, horror and despair sucking all of the air out of the night. Their chests are as still as the evening, the faint flickering of the yellow street lamp illuminating their lack of animation.
In a blur, the Camaro reappears, bearing down on him until the headlights white out his vision.
All at once, he’s bolting upright in bed, chest heaving like he’s just run ten miles, a strangled shout that sounds an awful lot like No! lodged behind his teeth as he tries to keep his head from swimming at the sudden motion.
