“Whoa, what?” Joe stammered. “You’ve got the wrong idea, kiddo. I’m not married. Cherry isn’t married to me.”
Reki’s face fell. “Oh? Sorry, I just assumed because you guys are always together and you argue like an old married couple. Then who’s his husband, and why have we never met him?”
“His wife is a lawyer,” Joe said deliberately. “Her name is Akiko. She doesn’t skate.”

“Shh,” Joe said, not knowing if that would actually affect her volume or not. He hoped so. “Could you…when Kaoru wakes up, could you tell him something for me?”
“Yes.”
“Then tell him, ‘I think you’re beautiful.’”
“Time to wake up, Master. This is your fifth alarm.”
Cherry squinched his face irritably and heaved an annoyed sigh. “I’m up, Carla, I’m up.”
“Good morning, Master. I think you’re beautiful.”
A bit stunned and more than a little confused, Cherry decided that it was just too damn early and he’d heard wrong. “Sorry, Carla—could you repeat that?”

But Adam ignores him, instead choosing to saunter up to the pair of them like he’s stalking his prey. “Isn’t it obvious, sweetheart?” he purrs.
He’s quiet, at least. Voice low enough so that only the three of them can hear.
“Our darling Kojiro has a pathetic little crush on you, Kaoru! Can you believe it?!”

“I'll kill him, Kaoru. I–” Kojiro hiccupped, swallowing back his tears. He ran his thumb over Kaoru’s ring finger, bare as it always was when they went to S. “I thought you were dead. You were on the track and you weren’t moving. My heart stopped, I thought of all the things we didn’t do. Hell, we never even had a honeymoon.”
“We were both working, idiot.” Kaoru’s voice was hoarse, cracking between syllables and lacking his usual bite. He took a sip of water; neither of them commented on the slight tremor of the battered hand wrapped around the cup. “Sia la Luce was brand new and I had a pile of commissions taller than I was…”
“Lets go on that honeymoon now.” Kojiro leaned forward suddenly, grip on Kaoru’s hand tightening in his excitement. Kaoru’s eyes widened, lips parting to object but Kojiro pressed on. “We’ll go somewhere warm and new, we’ll take the time that we couldn’t before. Come on, Kaoru. Let me take care of you.”
After the full swing kiss, Kojiro and Kaoru go on their long overdue honeymoon.

Langa’s hands were clutched over ADAM’s arm, desperately trying to relieve the pressure on his windpipe. The rowdy groups who had previously crowded around were skittering back into the shadows, unsure what to expect.
Reki had just stared for a moment. Then, he shouted Langa’s name and made a jerky, half-step toward them-

ADAM's refusal to lose the race against Langa leaves Kojiro caught in the crossfire. Kaoru has to pick up the pieces himself this time, and finds that something has started to change between him and his friend along the way.
