“Oh, Midoriya,” Hizashi threw his head back, his posture slumping as he stepped back to give Shouta some space.
Shouta answered the call with a sharpness that could have cut glass. “You better have a gun to your head, Midoriya,” he led with, his voice a low, dangerous rumble.
There was a pause on the other end—a beat too long—before a voice that was decidedly not Midoriya’s spoke up.
"Actually, this is Dr. Arisue from the West Musutafu Clinic," the man on the line said, sounding entirely too used to Aizawa's bedside manner. "And while there are no firearms involved, your student has had a small accident."
“What happened?" Shouta asked, grumbling.
“A flight of concrete stairs.”
‘...Beg your pardon?”

But he’s already made his decision; you can't come back from this. He stares wide-eyed as the ground gets closer and closer as the seconds tick on, eyes squeezing shut as he waits for impact. He awaits the consequences of his own stupid actions and then—
I don’t want to die.
—and then he opens his eyes and he’s stood peering over the edge of the building he’d just fallen from. Beside him, his shoes are tucked neatly on the ledge, backpack leaned on the ground beside them just as he’d left them. Izuku blinks owlishly, leaning forwards to stare ten stories down. Ten stories down where he’d just been a moment prior, only seconds away from hitting the ground.
He’s... back?
And that’s the first time Midoriya Izuku realizes that he does, in fact, have a Quirk.

shouta stepped into the cafe. he had decided to try the new local cafe that had opened. thankfully, it was just around the corner.
stepping into the space, the atmosphere was cozy. he sat at the kid-sized plastic chair and table, grimacing when his knees protested at the bend but he made do.
the little green haired waiter toddled from behind the mini kitchen counter, beaming up at him before handing him the piece of paper that he presumed was the menu.
the dark haired man contemplated his options- which weren’t much since the shaky crayon writing only included ‘mlk’, ‘wotah’ and ‘kofi’ with the last option scribbled out.
“i’d like to order a glass of milk, please.”

So maybe the interview with Nighteye had left Izuku a little... frustrated, but it was fine. It was fine! He'd gotten the internship in the end, and he'd dealt with a lot more discrimination than a rigged test. There was no point in being angry when it wouldn't change anything.
But after Izuku bumped into an unusually angry stranger on the walk back to UA, he decided he should talk to All Might. Just to ask why the man never told him about Togata being a potential successor, that's all! And why All Might never mentioned Nighteye didn't like him before sending him to the man's agency! Small things. Just some small things he wanted to discuss.
It's not long after that Izuku was realizing there were much bigger things he had sitting on his chest, and the newfound urge to acknowledge them began to take over.
He was angry.
Or, Izuku has been suppressing his anger since he was a child, when being upset only got him insults and scoldings. When he's unknowingly affected by an anger-amplifying Quirk on the walk home, however, he and those around him are forced to confront everything simmering within for years.

Izuku tilted his head, curls brushing his cheek. His voice was gentle, almost too matter-of-fact. “Well… it is normal, isn’t it?”
Katsuki’s throat went tight. He looked away, fiddling with his phone like it needed all his attention. “…You’re annoying.”
Izuku only smiled, slipping his feet under the blanket Katsuki had dragged down earlier. Their legs brushed, warm through the fabric, and Izuku leaned just faintly into his side.
“Mm,” he hummed, eyes already flicking back to the screen. “You don’t really mind, though.”
Katsuki clicked his tongue, low and sharp, but his hand twitched under the blanket—like it wanted to tug Izuku closer but didn’t dare.
Izuku noticed anyway. He always did.
