Ellie takes a few hesitant steps toward the door before Joel notices it: blood, soaking down her side.
Fuck. Fuck.
He yanks her back, frantic as he pulls up the hem of her shirt. Dark red seeps through the fabric as he searches for the source. “Jesus,” he breathes, spotting the wound. “Okay, you’re okay. Keep goin’.”
She stares at him in confusion, still trying to catch her breath from the terror of being attacked. “What?”
“Just keep movin’.” With his hand on her back, Joel forces her forward until bodies no longer surround them. He needs space to work, needs to get her away from the carnage before shock sets in. With one movement, he sweeps the cans off the large crate, then focuses on Ellie. “Up,” he says, voice low as he boosts her to sit.
“What’s wrong?” she asks. He can hear the fear creeping into her tone.
“I think you were shot.”

Katsumoto’s flashlight swung around the inside of Magnum’s car. “You know, most people sleep in tents when they go camping. Where’s your supplies?”
“Thought it was going to rain. My supplies are in the boot.” Magnum scrubbed a hand over his face again. “What is this, an interrogation?”
“Pop it open.”
“I hardly think you have due reason to search my car, officer.”
Katsumoto was silent for a long second. Against the dark of the night, it was impossible to make out any facial expressions or body language. Not that those were particularly elucidating with Katsumoto anyways.
“Is this about the white SUV? The guys who’ve been following you?” Suddenly Katsumoto’s tone was sharp. “You thought you’d set yourself out as bait and see if they bite? Without back-up? And you fell asleep?”
“What? No! No, this isn’t about that.”
“It’s sounding like that’s what this is about.” Katsumoto’s replied, acerbic and frustrated. “Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
Magnum blew out a frustrated breath. “Higgins is renting out the guest house.”***
After Higgins is shot (s3e01) a shaken Magnum resolves to quietly repay all his debts and favors. This goes about as well as could be expected.

"But you'll die" Luke blurted out hurriedly in a voice that showed clear concern and disapproval with the idea.
"Nothing can stop that now...Just for once let me look at you with my own eyes" Darth Vader said.
Luke had no choice but to comply, It was his father's dying wish and Darth Vader was relieved when the mask that covered his head was removed.
"Now...Go my son, Leave me" Darth Vader stuttered weakly.
"No, You're coming with me, I'll not leave you here I've got to save you" Luke said.
"You already...Have, Luke, You were right...You were right about me...Tell your sister you were right" Darth Vader replied in a shaking weak stutter.
"Father, I won't leave you" Luke continued in a sad voice.
The last thing he heard was Luke's voice full of grief and mature acceptance as he called him father for the last time.
And with that Darth Vader took his last breath accepting death with open arms.
Or at least he thought as much...

Before he can ask, before he can do a single thing, she yanks his arm through the fence, shoves his sleeve back, and sinks her teeth deep into the skin just above his elbow.
He curses and reflexively jerks back, but her grip on his arm is strong, and she just sinks her teeth deeper before she lets go. He pulls his arm back and is looking at her, wondering if she’s lost her damn mind from the stress of this horror show, when the door opens and three men, including David, walk through.
The sight of blood on her mouth makes the men pause.
But only for a second.

A groaning exhale from the backseat has Ellie perking up, and she nearly drives into a fallen tree when she whips around to look. Whoops.
So she watches Joel from the rearview instead, hungrily drinking in the sight of his growing wakefulness between glances at the road.
“What…” Joel grumbles, hand going to his head. Then he freezes before shooting up, eyes wild. He’s so big he almost hits his head on the roof of the car, and his legs—which are folded up against the door—kick wildly while he tries to right himself.
“It’s okay!” Ellie cries, aiming for reassuring but landing somewhere closer to hysterical. “It’s okay, you’re with me.”
For a brief, insane moment, Ellie wishes fiercely she had a pet name for him, something she could call him when he needed comforting. Nothing makes Ellie feel more cared for and safe than baby girl in Joel's southern drawl.

It’s because of this access that he’s the first one who puts eyes on a file about the subject that allowed the Fireflies to get their miracle cure. There’s no names–well, no names that are true, he can tell from even a cursory glance–but there are notes that start to scratch at memories.
Female, 14 years old, raised in the Boston QZ, mother a Firefly, father unknown, 5’1”, 94 pounds at the start and 83 by the end of testing, medical history unknown by virtue of being an orphan.
It’s a rough sketch, a vague idea of a person that could fit anyone.
But somehow, in the part of himself that’s made him one of the best spymasters FEDRA has in its employ, he just knows.
The Firefly’s miracle girl is his daughter.

It felt like enough, until 5 years passed and she finally got a new lead, causing her to uproot her old Firefly crew to track down the smuggler.
