Summary
In any case, in the dozens of fake scenarios birthed from the fear of being outed stored in his mind, he didn’t expect for it to happen like this:
It was a YouTube video. A young woman sat in the thumbnail of the foreground with pictures of him floating next to her head. The titled said, Undeniable PROOF that Shane Hollander is Gay. The image of this young girl with brown hair had been sent to him dozens of times in the last 30 minutes. The look on her face, he felt, was molded purposefully into an aesthetic portrait of shock and excitement, almost as if she was doing the world a favor.
--
Or, Shane gets outed a few weeks after 'The Hit' and panics.

Summary
An idea lodges in Shane's head, metastasizing quickly as his mind flies over dates and names and account numbers. An idea that would solve all of his worries, his fears, that was the best thing for everyone, in the end.
Everyone, except Ilya. But Ilya wasn’t here, was he? Shane had given him up for the sake of his legacy.
If he could sacrifice his heart and soul for his legacy, it was the easiest decision in the world to decide to end his life as well.

Summary
“You scream in your sleep.”
“That was one night.”
“It was three.”
“You’re counting?”
“Yes. Because I’m awake for all of them.”
—
“I don’t want you to see me like this.”
“I see you.”
—
“It’s just a plate.”
“I can’t—”
“Can’t what?”
“I didn’t stop it.”
—
“I was fourteen.”
…
Or, Shane starts having episodes—flashbacks he doesn’t fully remember—that bleed into sleep, into games, into the space between him and Ilya. He loses time. He loses weight. He loses control of the carefully engineered life he built to feel safe. Ilya isn’t the only one confused—because Shane won’t let himself remember. And when the ice finally cracks, it’s not just their marriage on the line.
