There's no version of this where Charles doesn't go get Edwin.
It is torture to venture in the worst place possible, but Charles will face everything and everything, be that his trauma, a furious witch, or manipulative cat-like king of Hell, to make sure Edwin is safe.
Unfortunately, it won't go right the first time around, because there is no version of this where Charles doesn't turn around, and this time, it dooms them both.

Wilbur laughs again, agony threading strain through his voice. “I think it’s broken.”

“Nothing?!” Wilbur squirmed in his grasp, yanking himself away and peering over his hulking form to look back into the cabin. “Mate, your shelves are fucking full of toys, how have they not collapsed already? Where did you get all of those?”

Summary
Other people’s bodies don’t look like Monty's. He sees them in movies, when the girls go to the pool and come back in bikinis, when Charles peels off his shirt in order to snap off some ghostly puke.
Other bodies don’t have the same texture as his. The same nasty evidence of a life lived before. Even those that have died don’t carry the evidence that they are on a second or third life, that they were pieced together by an uncaring creator who only gave a shit about a pretty face and no other part of the body.
It is no shock, really, why Edwin has no interest in Monty. He does not have the sort of body that is appealing to a human, not like Charles-
The door opens to the room before Monty has a chance to replace his shirt back where it was. “Holy shit, mate,” comes a familiar voice, and something in Monty’s chest plummets at the shock in his voice, the way he is taken aback. “What the hell happened to you?”
Monty slings his shirt back on in an instant, but the damage is done.

Summary
Jason has figured out that there are two groups of people: the "Heys" who keep him in a bathtub with too little water and subject him to unimaginable pain every time they pry scales from his body and the "Assholes" who buy the scales.
So when he's taken from the Heys by some Asshole, he's not stupid enough to assume his situation will actually improve at all. All humans, after all, are terrible--especially Assholes who wear demon skin and don't quite grasp how lost Jason really is.
(In which Jason misunderstands pretty much everything about humans and Bruce is an asshole...in the nicest way possible.)

Summary
Tim instinctively shifts himself away from the contraption, but the hands hold steady, and his sight is quickly enveloped in darkness. The dips are fitted perfectly to his eyes and nose, moulding the metal around his face to the back of his skull. His ears are also covered, but he can still hear the quiet grunts of his captors and the shuffle of their boots.
The hands shift, now digging into his jaw. He huffs loudly, attempting to growl at them and blindly swinging his head around to dislodge them. The metal that encases his jaw quickly puts an end to that, holding his mouth closed. Like the blindfold, the metal wraps tightly around his head, pinching his left cheek.
Gagged, blindfolded and cuffed to a wall, not the best circumstance to be in. This will be hard to get out of.
