Summary
Welcome to Last City! It's on the smaller side, but full of wonderful characters and model citizens!
Cue Scott, a news reporter wanting to publish an article about the city, one of the few major cities without heroes or villains. He stays with Pearl, a photo journalist.
The reason there's no hero or villain system? Because at night the city is just an absolute war zone. While there are no heroes, there are still criminals needed to be taken care of, with only inexperienced volunteers to deal with them. A prophet, Jimmy, tells Scott to stay away, so naturally he goes in head first to discover the cities secrets.
Aaaaaand now he's in the middle of a war between "greens" and "reds", whatever that means.

Summary
“…Nom?”
Nom felt himself freeze. Every nerve and muscle in his body suddenly on high alert as he bit his bottom lip down to not make a noise. He knew that voice. God damnit. He was so busy wallowing in self pity he hadn’t even recognized the familiar heartbeat to his left or the soft footsteps of leather boots.
Nom didn’t dare move a muscle. Partly because it would hurt like hell if he did, but also because a childish part of him hoped that maybe the voice would turn away.
Of course, the voice was Scott, and Scott didn’t turn away. So all he could do was stare at the ground, force himself to not move his eyes up to his neck, and pierce through the skin to the blood vessels and revel as they pop.
Or; Canon compliant except what if Nom was a vampire, and also Scott is there. That's it lmao

Summary
In a realm shattered by the Bannerfall war, the ruins of the Blue and Red Kingdoms cling to a fragile ceasefire. Scott Springwell, a hesitant 21-year-old half-elf from the peaceful village of Barrowhill, is summoned to the Blue Kingdom to serve as their "High Mage." But Scott is no war-hero; he is a gardener by heart, burdened by "glitchy" magic that triggers only when he’s afraid, and a deep-seated fear that he is a fraud playing dress-up in a graveyard.
As Scott struggles to find his place among a ragtag group of survivors—stoic knights, mischievous rogues, and rival mages—a darker shadow begins to stretch across the valley. With the sudden appearance of a cursed dungeon and its ancient inhabitant, the Creaking King, a mysterious plague begins to seep into the land.
While the sickness takes a standard toll on others, it finds a unique, hungry home in Scott. The vibrant life-magic of the Springwell lineage begins to sour, mutating into something ancient and wooden. As the "Ode" plays on, Scott must face a terrifying reality: he isn't just fighting to save a kingdom; he is fighting a countdown as his own body slowly turns into the very nightmare he was summoned to defeat.
