How long can a lie remain a lie before it becomes a justification to linger? For how long can one lie about motivations before the lie becomes their truth?
Shadow Milk Cookie makes good on his threat that Pure Vanilla Cookie's kindness will be his undoing. He arrives in the Vanilla kingdom asking for help, lying that his followers have turned on him and his magic is gone. This lie wraps him up in itself until he is completely enmeshed, unable to tell where the lie ends, and where his true motivations begin. That lie becomes an excuse to linger.

With a fleet of cookies by their side, they stopped them in time, but amongst the rubble of the battlefield, there wasn't the body of Pure Vanilla lying limply.

Summary
There's no sweeter lie than a dream. Your brain takes in memories and snippets of wants and fears and turns into a big ol' mush of nonsensical information you're free to interpret as you wish. Logically, it follows a liar would take interest in making use of this.
Or, Shadow Milk Cookie decides weakening Pure Vanilla Cookie before their next encounter would be an excellent strategic maneuver. What better way than by turning all of his dreams to nightmares by his own hand?

The Cookie world was abuzz with the news. He was back. After thousands of years of dead silence, he was back!
The other four Emissaries were infamous, though only scholars of the arcane knew the history of the fallen Virtues having turned to vices after their fall. In contrast, the Fount of Knowledge was a huge question mark in history. Knowledge never fell like the other Virtues. It merely faded.
Or, at least, that was as much as Cookiekind at large knew about the Fount’s history, and the Sage of Truth had never had any desire to correct them...before now.

The Fount knew that he wasn't a real Cookie. Yet, he longed to feel like one. To be one. Even with the other Virtues, he never had anyone to share the burden of knowledge with. Never had anyone to open up to, to talk about himself to. Even with the other Virtues, he had never truly had a friend who understood him--save for one, Vanilla Cream Cookie.
But now, Vanilla Cream Cookie was dead. The Fount didn't want to hold on any longer. He was done.
The world became chaos, and The Fount had embraced a new personality. One crafted from the lies and horrors of other Cookies. One he could use to hide away from the world, to hide his true feelings deep down. He enjoyed it, lying. It made him feel perhaps more like a real Cookie--and not just some servant of the Witches.
OR
An alternative universe where Pure Vanilla Cookie (Vanilla Cream Cookie) and Fount of Knowledge lived during the same time which then eventually escalates to the real plot of the story with smc and pvc.

"There's also some texts that are in languages we can't decipher, and I heard you mention..” Pure Vanilla trails off, losing his thought process a little.
Shadow Milk's ears perk up from the mention of different languages, as that’s something he’s always been quite fond of. “Language deciphering you say~?” he floats down so that he’s at Pure Vanillas eye level, a big smile on his face like he never was unhappy 5 minutes ago. Pure Vanilla doesn’t flinch at the sudden proximity, instead he smiles kindly and simply nods.
“Yes, we thought that perhaps you could help us in that department.” His voice gentle, and Shadow Milk ignores the strange feeling his stomach always gets whenever Pure Vanilla is so gentle with him. Because it's stupid.-----other summery :) ----
Basically Shadow Milk messes up and sends Pure Vanilla and White Lily back in time. This sets off a huge set of events in the stressful times of war.-Title is the song «Another Believer» by Rufus Wainwright from Meet the Robinsons :)
