Summary
Dropping out of college and moving to a charming seaside town where many other singers got their start seemed like a good idea to Akito at first, but after the death of his boyfriend, his dreams lost their appeal—and so did the rest of his world. Trapped in a town where he can’t escape the life he thought he wanted, Akito resigns himself to an indefinite slump... that is, until a mermaid accidentally curses him to die at the end of the summer.
Now, with the help of new friends and a bit of magic, Akito has to find genuine happiness to break the curse; it’s his last chance at life, and he wants to truly live it.

Touya moves quick to chase after Akito, who was just metres away, crouching in the middle of the 30kmph street, just by a bend. Touya knew the hazard right away, and broke into a sprint to try and catch up.
"Akito get up! You can't-"
His sprint is cut off short, his legs stalling. His knees strike the ground hard, eyes meeting red.
Dark, dark red.
...in which Touya is destined to suffer, and Akito is destined to die.

He can never face the stage again, not after smearing mud all over the place he once admired so much. He fucked up, embarrassed himself, and wasn’t able to face it, wasn’t able to bare the consequences. So, instead, he dropped music. He gave up on that silly dream, the one that looking back, never really seemed possible to begin with. It was a stupid decision, he realized quickly, because, without music, he is nobody. Music was the flame that burned in his heart, that kept pushing him forward, but he snuffed that flame out with his own two hands.

An alternate universe where Akito quit music the day he messed up at Crawl Green, which leads to him meeting a strange boy on a cliff.

There were no petals.
There was no blood.
Everything was okay.
And it was enough. It was enough to convince him that he was okay, and since he was okay, there was nothing to worry about.
But each time he’d cross Toya in the hallways, and even now, while he’s standing before him about to take off to lunch, a vine crawls in his throat and strangles his lungs more than this “illness” would do on its own.
Akito gets Hanahaki, but something's different.
