The door swings open, and Childe immediately bows and says his signature catchphrase, “Fatui Maid Services, here to offer you the most authentic maid experience. I’m Childe, and I’ll be—”
He finally looks up, and stood before him was a man with dark hair tied in a low ponytail that trailed down to his waist. He had a decent build, broad shoulders and defined muscles barely outlined by his white dress shirt, his sleeves partially rolled up and exposing his forearms. His eyes were the colour of cor lapis, and the ends of his hair strands had the slightest tint of amber.
“—s-serving you today...” Childe was absolutely mesmerised.
“Ah, you’re here,” the man spoke, and Childe suppressed the urge to scream.
Fuck, that voice. It was a pleasant baritone. Serene and tranquil, an excellent match to the elegance and poise the man exuded.
When he heard that his client was a rich man in his thirties, he was expecting someone a little... different. Someone crude, someone snobby, someone unpleasant. But this man, Zhongli, if Childe remembers correctly, was the furthest from that. And so he stands stunned, his mouth agape as he stared at the most beautiful man he’d ever laid eyes upon.

Alhaitham tightened his grip on his sword at the mention of his name. Nahida had assured the palace was vacant and that not a soul knew he would be arriving today.
"Who are you and why are you here." Alhaitham demanded.
The man's expression did not change. His mouth slightly agape in confusion and suprise. His hands were resting behind his back in a relaxed posture. He did not seem afraid, nor threatened in the slightest. After a heartbeat or two his shoulders slouched down slightly and he steadily replied;
"My name is Kaveh."

After numerous assassination attempts Alhaitham is forced to temporarily move. He soon finds that the Palace he believed to be vacant is keeping a man, waiting to be discovered, hostage. A man that could uncover why Alhaitham is incomplete.

Summary
When childhood best friends fall apart, Kaveh is left in Gandharva Ville, spending his time painting and occupying his time at the paint shop, and Alhaitham, now living within Sumeru City, has become part of a wealthy family, inheriting his parent's fortune after their untimely passing.
When the opportunity arises for Kaveh to live within the city for his paintings, he is at a dead end, having nowhere to go, and that is when Alhaitham's grandmother reaches out to him, inviting him to live with her and Alhaitham. It's been years since they've seen each other, and plenty has changed, and not just in appearance. What should've been a simple trip to further his career journey turned into a life full of secrets and confusion, and left Kaveh wondering about whether Alhaitham really was who he initially thought or not.

Kaveh comes back from a trip into the desert for inspiration and finds out that Alhaitham's daughter will be staying with them for an undetermined amount of time.
He's perfectly normal about this.

As Alhaitham drones on, the color returns to Kaveh’s face. Though this time, Alhaitham can’t quite tell if the light pink on the older man’s cheeks and ears are a result of anger, or something else.
“Ah, but it appears I was mistaken. Once again, you’re all talk, no action. A barking dog with no plan to actually bite-“
“Go sit on the divan.”“…huh?”
Kaveh doesn’t give his roommate the chance to think or readjust.
“Don’t pretend like you didn’t hear me. If you wanna play this game Alhaitham, fine. Go sit on the divan.”

OrKaveh is an altruist. He fully believes in the power of love, romance, and dreams. Alhaitham is a realist. He places his faith in the power of reason, truth, and history.
