Robert mumbled something he couldn't catch.
"What? I don't understand what you're saying," he tried, going for a calm tone. Calm-ish. His heart was beating out of his chest with adrenaline.
"... he put something in my drink."
Flambae froze for a second... then cursed, pulling the burning t-shirt off his back, stomping it out on the ground before getting his leather jacket; it was treated with fire-retardant. He would probably need it.
Shit. Fuck, he had to get his shit together.
"Robert. I need you to tell me where you are. Okay? Are you alone? Are you hurt?" he bit out. He'd done his fair share of clubbing - a little less now that he had a regular job, but still - and he'd also seen his fair share of... Nope. If he thought about that he would catch the whole fucking building on fire.
"I... I knocked him out," Robert said. There was an audible swallow. Flambae was concentrating so hard, he could hear the dry click of the man's throat as it worked. Or maybe he just imagined it.
"Fucking good. I'm coming to get you. But I need to know where the fuck you are, do you remember?" he asked, already out the door, taking the stairs down two at a time instead of waiting for the elevator.Series

Chad leans over, then reaches down to pop the trunk open. The cargo stops struggling. He reaches one hand out and a flame ignites on it, enveloping it like a torch.
He grins. "We meet again, Mecha Man."
Mecha Man, too busy being gagged so tightly it'll leave rug burn at the corners of his mouth, doesn't dignify him with a response beyond a glare so heated it could melt ice.

Summary
The Z-Team takes Robert out to eat for the two year anniversary of his arrival to SDN. Robert has found a certain sense of peace among their chaos. Before he met them, his life was predictable- as much as a superhero's life could be. Wake up, wreck his body trying to fix the mech that he's not sure he ever wanted, wreck his body trying to fight villains, wreck his body not taking care of himself properly, go to sleep. Rinse and repeat. Ever since he put on that headset, he's been healing, slowly but surely.
It's hard to convey how much they all mean to him, but he wants to try.

On Friday, Blonde Blazer found a new sucker to try (and fail) to wrangle the infamous Z-Team at SDN's Torrance location. On Friday, they all bet he'd be gone by Monday. On Monday, he showed up. On Tuesday, he showed up again. On Wednesday, they got to put a face to the voice.
He was the most basic and boring man he’d ever seen in his life. Average height, average brown hair cut into an average look, with big doe eyes and even bigger bags underneath them, a freckled face supported by a frame so thin and frail looking a soft breeze might knock him on his ass. All in all, he was entirely unremarkable in any and every way. Kind of cute, but in the same way a malnourished puppy covered in mud on the side of the road was cute.

The humble truth is that Robert Robertson III has never had a real Christmas.
Not a real one.
He’s celebrated the holidays, obviously, in a variety of different ways, but even when he thinks about it, the truth is… he hasn’t, actually.
His father was never home, not over Christmas. He’d always be out as Mecha-Man, saving the world, protecting people, his present to Robert being nothing more than staying alive.
Robert might have had a proper Christmas once, but without his mother, and with his fathers total inability to care about anything other than the future of Mecha-Man, they never had a tree, never had any decorations, really Christmas wasn’t so much as acknowledged because what would be the point? He didn’t remember it anyway.

Robert knew it could happen. The damage to his back from the fall was immense, and there was a chance, but he didn't think it would happen. He didn't think his legs would give up on him. He didn't think there might be a way to fix it. He didn't think the team would care. Seems he got a lot wrong. Might as well take the time to find out who he is without the pressure of Mecha Man on his shoulders and the inability to use his legs. Good thing Flambae is willing to carry him until the uphill battle is won.

Over the course of his life, Hob has been more than well acquainted with despair. Comes with the territory, a bit. Not even immortals have infinite strength. It took some centuries, though, before he became acquainted with Despair. In the flesh, as it were. Is it strange to find a degree of comfort in the personification of abject misery? Probably. But there've been times when she's been there, and that made all the difference.
He probably should have realised faster, though, that this creature and his Stranger might be known to each other. Before he got stuck in the middle of it, for preference.
