Viktor stops in his tracks. If he closes his eyes, he can imagine Jayce saying that to him. Between the creak of furniture, whisper of fabric, and soft but hurried breathing; he can imagine it’s them. Which is pretty pathetic if Viktor is being honest with himself.
But as he stares blankly into the dark abyss of the stacks—as if staring down the black barrel of a gun—pathetic doesn’t sound so bad. Pathetic is better than paralysis. It’s better than regret.
And what are scientists if not curious?
Late one night, Viktor witnesses something he shouldn't and changes the trajectory of his relationship with Jayce forever.

The battle is over, the hexcore absorbing both of them into a white hot core of light.

The flash of bright light was what Jayce had expected, but not the landscape that appeared before him.
He hadn’t died.
Brought to a brand new world, partner in hand, Jayce and Viktor stumble through what they believe is the afterlife. A cabin in the middle of an endless forest. It seems like more than they deserve- But pieces keep falling out of place. It’s like they’ve been here before, an unknown past life echoes through as they pick the pieces of themselves back together. Can they trust this strange utopia? Or is it another cruel illusion of the arcane?AKA Jayce and Viktor don't die in the astral plane, but are shot into a parallel dimension. They get a second chance to make amends, to be friends, partners, once more.

Summary

Drifting in the emptiness, their consciousnesses intertwined, tearing down their physical barriers until all that remained was a feeling of complete understanding and warmth.
But their fragile peace is short-lived. Something calls them back to a world that can no longer comprehend the bond they've forged or the transformations they've undergone.
Or
Everything is so much easier when you and your partner are inextricably bound by the very core of the universe. And being brought back to life isn't exactly as exciting when you have to deal with the rest of the world and actually express your feelings.

Summary
While stuck in port for repairs, the crew of esteemed pirate Captain John Price's vessel keep themselves busy with a variety of activities. For one John 'Soap' MacTavish, this includes accepting a contract to hunt down a ferocious sea monster referred to as "The Ghost", which seems to have an insatiable taste for human blood and a horrifying skull face that drives survivors to madness. Soap manages to injure the creature during a storm, but can't quite make the killing blow before it slips back into the abyss from which it came.
But when he finds it hiding in a cave to nurse its injuries, he learns that the Ghost is more than just a ravenous, mindless beast, and he has to make an important decision: complete the bounty and get enough gold to cement himself as one of the greatest pirates of all time, or betray his found family and side with a known killer.
