Summary

This is so good. I think sometimes some people forget how many issues these characters have and how much they're holding inside themselves. And though I also love the romcom/humorous stories, these realistic and stark portrayals of the burden these characters actually carry really hit home.

I've only read the first trilogy of this series, but damn if this isn't amazing work. The words flow so beautifully and easily that I barely even realize that I've read 50,000 until I'm at the end.
The plot twist in Let the Sky Open Up is perfect. The slow build between Castiel and Dean is perfect. The writing is perfect. I love this series and I'm not even done with it yet.
Highly recommend!

Summary
If they really go back and think about it... it all started with a tree. A Christmas tree, that is. Castiel is human now, and the apocalypse is not only over, it's been averted. Sam's away at NYU, finally finishing law school, and Dean's stuck in what is probably the most awkward situation of his life. He's not exactly sure how he ended up sharing a flat with Cas in Media, Pennsylvania, but he does know the curious would-be angel is sort of derailing his plans for a life of decadence and booze. Cas is trying to make the best of his humanity by exploring human holidays. Dean can't exactly complain because he's pretty much the reason Cas got his wings clipped in the first place.
Dean didn't actually want to fall in love, but how was he supposed to know it would all start with a goddamn tree?

Fluff and angst and smut in turns. Surprisingly in-character given the material the author's working with.
Cas is a holiday junkie (and addicted to ugly sweaters/cardigans/anything tacky or horrendously designed [and candles]) and Dean is a a closeted cuddler (like we didn't know that already). And the Winchesters get their well deserved Happily Ever After (with a few bumps along the way).

Purged of all his souls, Castiel is a changed being, stronger than an angel and too powerful for Jimmy's body to contain. Happily, there's an archangel's vessel on hand, and he could use fixing, too. Dean isn't too happy about the idea of his brother acting as a vessel for Castiel, and Sam can guess why, but it isn't until Castiel gets inside his head and they learn to share the vessel -- and their thoughts -- that Sam realises Cas is as in love with Dean as Dean is with him. It's unfortunate that there's nothing much to be done about it now, but Castiel will get another vessel soon. The Winchesters will make damn sure of that. In the meantime, it's up to the three of them to establish their own strange accord, and Dean realises more fully than ever that it's Castiel, and not his vessel, that he loves.
