Summary
The thing about Changkyun is - he never wanted to be a Guide. He’s not Guide material.
He’s introverted, withdrawn, likes his solitude - he sometimes goes for days without talking and he is more than fine with it.Sentinels needs people who can bring them back from their zones - and Changkyun can barely stop himself from getting lost in his own thoughts.
So when he manifests as a Guide at the age of 20? He’s pretty sure he’s going to be the worst Guide in existence.Until he gets paired with a detective from the nearby district. A Sentinel of over 10 years already - and one who never lasted longer than a couple of months with a Guide before, against all odds and rules.
And the thing about this detective Yoo is? He looks at Changkyun with bright eyes and nice smile and says he never wanted a Guide anyway.

For a moment, Mike’s too surprised to understand, but he relaxes into the embrace. It’s sweet and rare, and Mike’s learned to savor these, hoard them for later. He exhales more tension than he’d been aware of at the feel of Harvey’s cheek against his own, but still. A Christmas gift, just a taste, maybe enough to hold onto and then -
Harvey presses his lips to Mike’s temple, and Mike makes this raw, cramped sound into the front of Harvey’s peacoat. A warm hand comes up to cup the back of his head.
“Oh, kid,” Harvey says softly.
Mike sniffs hard and tries to anticipate whatever jab is coming next. “What’re you gonna do with me, huh?”
But Harvey just squeezes him a little tighter. “Idiot. That plan’s never changed. I'm gonna keep you.”

"Hey, Changkyunnie…? Won't you stay a while longer here?"
Kihyun's voice is so soft, so gentle, so full of caring. Changkyun swallows, not looking at him, and tries to ignore how Kihyun's hands have him melt into his touch. He shouldn't stay. He wants to be alone and just sleep and forget everything about what happened today.
Kihyun's thumbs caress over his cheeks, softly, back and forth, non-pressuring, inviting.
It's so tempting.
