Summary
The Boiling Isles is a massively expanding Empire and people, and that Empire needs to defend its people from the invading Demons and Monsters that threaten its witches and its denizens. So leads in the Boiling Isles Militia, the finest set of soldiers there is on the Isles, to protect the Boiling Isles. Defending the Isles for more than 100 years, since the rise of Emperor Belos.
However, in more recent times, a devastatingly large force of Demons, led by Commander Noceda threatens to raze the entirety of the Isles to the ground in a bloody war for revenge the only thing standing in her way, is Amity Blight. A respected, dangerous, and genius General who leads the only battalion that will hold back the Demons with her Right-Hand, Boscha Havenstar, an equally formidable figure in the Militia.
The upcoming battle for the Boiling Isles is fast approaching, and while both forces march to meet their deaths, both Commander and General reminisce on their shared, difficult past with one another, wanting nothing more than to confront the other and bury their hatchet.
Only spilled blood will settle things now...

[ Rewrite of 'the troubles of being almost hollow' ]
Ghost is many things. They are a vessel, they are a knight, they are a pale thing, they are small, they are fierce, they are Hallownest's savior, they are Void Given Focus and they are debatably bad at stealing snacks.
They are not quite certain how well they can add 'king' to that list of names, but they figure its worth a shot. There's nothing better to do.

Summary
Ghost could not save Myla. They could not save Quirrel. They could not deny the Nailsmith his last wish. People close to them, people they know deserved better, people that helped them with their goal, are gone. The void within them is strong, stronger than the Radiance, strong enough to keep what has ruined their life tucked away. They're not hollow in every way, but they have convinced themself that such is the case - and that is nearly all that matters to Ghost at this point.
They can save Hornet. They can save Hallownest. They've got work to do.

Summary
There's something familiar, about the Boiling Isles. Luz Noceda would not go so far as to call it expected, but... there's something off, in realizing that what she sees in her dreams is unnervingly close to reality, even if it's not quite her own reality.
Emperor Belos, on the other hand, would really just like to get some sleep without someone else's emotions banging down his door every night.
(This fic was written prior to season 2 and all the new lore revealed there. It is a product of hiatus and my own personal headcanon from chapter 4 onward)
