The thin slip over his body does absolutely nothing to protect him from the elements; the chill sinking into his bones, the fat, heavy rain droplets pelting his skin.
His body is vibrating, fear and adrenaline keeping him hyper-aware of every small noise in the dark, unforgiving forest.
He trips over another root and falls hard on his left side, knocking the wind out of his lungs and sending spots swirling into his vision. He tries to stand, but the ground beneath him shifts and Izuku is tumbling down, down, further and further- he covers his face with his arms, trying to protect himself from the sharp rocks. He hits the bottom of the culvert with a resounding thud, body aching all over and a scream stuck in his throat.
He lays still for a moment, arms still shielding his face from the rain drops, trying to protect himself from the reality of the situation.
He’d thought this practice had been done away with.
The village hadn’t offered a sacrifice in so long, Izuku was sure that they’d found another way to appease the beast in the forest.
But it turns out sacrifices were still being made.
