The weather was cooling down, and for a piglin such as himself this was the precursor, the gentle reminder to start settling down for the long hibernation over winter.

Tommy stares at the very very huge Piglin brute who stares him down with a blank face and a soda with potato chips in both of his hands ready to buy it.
The brute shifts uncomfortably at the little runt staring at him, he clears his throat.
Tommy jolts and realizes he was staring…embarrassing. The brute sat the soda down with the chips and looked away too.
Tommy began ringing him up and shove the food into the bag and held it out the brute. The Piglin brute grabs the bag and leaves the store.
Tommy relaxes his body and sighs, he runs his fingers through his hair and ruffles it. Tommy waits for an hour for his shift to end…an hour.

Eventually he was able to go home and he collapsed onto his mattress and cried himself to sleep.or

[THIS WORK IS HEAVILY RELIANT ON PRIOR WORKS IN THE SERIES, ESPECALLY "FINAL DANCE"! It will not make any sense without having read them!]
Since their friends were abducted, Kidd and the others who weren't taken during the incident have wracked their brains to try to come up with ways to track them down and free them. Unfortunately, Kidd can't seem to disconnect this incident from the deaths of the past, when he had godlike control over time itself and could meticulously right his every wrong. Having lost that power ages ago, Kidd can't stop blaming himself for the fates of his friends. The lengths he's willing to go to take back control over time, to fix what he sees as his own failures, are horrifically great.
It takes many reminders for Kidd to realize that he's not in this fight alone --- not anymore. Even if time itself is no longer on his side, he has enough people at his side to make up the difference. He just needs to relearn how to trust them.
Meanwhile, Penny tries to navigate her(?) life as is expected of her, but a nagging feeling won't leave her be.

Since their friends were abducted, Kidd and the others who weren't taken during the incident have wracked their brains to try to come up with ways to track them down and free them. Unfortunately, Kidd can't seem to disconnect this incident from the deaths of the past, when he had godlike control over time itself and could meticulously right his every wrong. Having lost that power ages ago, Kidd can't stop blaming himself for the fates of his friends. The lengths he's willing to go to take back control over time, to fix what he sees as his own failures, are horrifically great.

With a sigh, Kid grabbed the ripest looking apple from the fridge before shutting it. Examining the fruit for a moment for any bruises, he found none. Wasting no more time, he brought the apple to his mouth and began to eat it.
Its taste was sour, as if the apple had been drenched in citric acid. He didn’t like the taste, not one bit, but he continued to stomach it regardless.
At the very least, the fruit did its job well enough. It filled him up and distracted him from his own warring thoughts.
At least now he could focus on things other than his own mental turmoil. Such as the crickets chirping outside, or the soft hum of the fridge, or the bug-eyed teenager standing outside his window…

Despite his displeasure at having to eat another one of these god forsaken fruits, he unfortunately didn’t have much of an option. It was either that or he died from salmonella by eating the raw chicken that’s been sitting there for over a week.
