Desmond didn't think about the future—couldn't afford to when it all felt like a fever dream and his current reality was so far removed, to even speak of it would get him labeled as insane. And if he turned his head and squinted, he could almost treat this as a vacation. A new start, for sure.
But the honeymoon phase ends rather abruptly when Desmond is forced to accept that the past lacks supplies he sorely, desperately needs.

It was a normal apple; red, round, and polished. It looked fresh, juicy, and too perfect for an apple that has been stored alongside yarn and sharpen needles and shears.
The grandma stretched her arm over the boxes to Percy, offering him the apple.
For some reason that Percy didn't stop to consider, he suddenly felt a deep kinship with Snowhite.
He stretched his arm meeting hers and the apple.

Shocking. But despite all of these grandiose changes, Desmond still had to climb back into the Animus.

Besides the enflamed scar, Zuko looked strangely… handsome. His lighter skin glowed almost ethereally in the Artic sun, and his golden eyes were pools of honey that Sokka found himself drowning in. Sokka envisioned the banished Fire Nation prince to be a tall, old soldier with greying hair and a mildly xenophobic attitude. Zuko looked nothing like that. If only he wasn’t Fire Nation...
Zuko was having a similar epiphany. Who was this boy standing in front of him with elaborate war paint and the sharpest jawline he had ever seen? Who did this sun-kissed-skin, ocean-eyed, spiky-wolftailed vision of a man think he was? A fleeting thought passed through Zuko’s mind, If only he wasn’t the Avatar. Nevertheless, ogling pretty boys would never bring his honor back.
