His heart began to hammer like crazy as the silence prolonged. Such a simple request shouldn’t weigh like a boulder, shouldn’t feel world ending depending on how it will be received.
Yuuji turned to him with a soft smile and Megumi found how easy it is to become complacent so willingly. Waiting, eager for his response.
“If we trained together, maybe I wouldn’t have felt the need to have done that.”
‘If you were there, I wouldn’t have felt so alone.’Megumi’s breath hitched at the thought. It’s what he was saying, right? Had he been by his side, had stood so close to touch, feel, sink in, Yuuji wouldn’t have felt so lonely.
So he wanted this, he wanted him.

The moment he was close enough Megumi wrapped a possessive arm around Yuuji’s waist and pulled him flush against his chest. He hooked his chin over Yuuji’s shoulder and glared at Naoya with every silent threat he could find as he rubbed his cheek across Yuuji’s neck.
“Fushiguro,” Yuuji beamed, still blissfully unaware of what had triggered Megumi’s territorial nature. It wasn’t often Megumi made a show of any form of PDA, or ensured others knew who Yuuji belonged to. For the most part, he could control the feral nature of his own inner alpha. But sometimes, when Yuuji’s scent flared up, when Yuuji was boxed in by another alpha, when he knew that everybody could smell his omega, Megumi couldn’t fight the urge to claim what was his.
When Megumi smells his mate's scent at a party, his inner alpha needs to claim what is rightfully his.

For a while, they eat and watch in silence. And when they finish eating, Megumi drags the blanket over the both of them because Yuuji gets cold but never says anything about it. The couple on the screen are having their first kiss in the rain and Megumi glances at Yuuji out of the corner of his eye.
His head is slumped against Megumi’s shoulder, his breathing even and his gaze unmoving. Megumi thinks of kissing him on his doorstep after a date. Squashes the thought as quickly as it comes.
“Hey, Megumi?” he grunts in answer, rubbing his cheek against the spike of Yuuji’s hair. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For always looking after me.” Yuuji laughs and Megumi can’t look at him when Yuuji looks up at him through his lashes.
The Bluelight of the TV makes his eyes shine. Megumi hopes the rabbit thud of his heart isn’t loud enough to hear.
