The world stopped its turning. Nothing else existed outside of the bathroom. This bathroom that hasn’t been cleaned in a month or two, this bathroom with its blue-tinted air and the cigarette smoke pressing against the textured ceiling.
Nothing else existed besides the two of them and the miniscule space between them.
Izuku watched the scowl melt from the face above him, giving way to a look of pure shock. Katsuki’s eyes were comically wide and glittering, still glazed and heated. Lips falling slightly agape as his breaths grew uneven. It had to be the prettiest thing Izuku has ever seen.
However, as quickly as the look came it left.
Katsuki squared his jaw and once again cowed Izuku by lurching into his space. “You have no idea what I’m feeling or what I’m thinking, Deku.”
A year and a half into their careers as pro heroes, Katsuki and Izuku, growing tired of the ordeal that is frequent hospital stays, decided to strike up a makshift triage in Izuku's dingy bathroom.
One early morning when everything was painted blue, something had to give.

“How long?” Izuku asks, unable to decide which part of Katsuki's face he wants to look at. He grabs Katsuki's shirt again. He clenches it once, twice. “Kacchan, how long?”
What is Katsuki supposed to say here? He can't even remember what it was like not to feel this way. Can't remember when it began either, he only knows that it did. At some point it started and it never stopped. It grew and grew until he knew and he knew he shouldn't and Izuku would never, and the only option he had left was to bury it. Bury it and deny it and let it hurt, yet never say it. Not to himself, not to Izuku—not to anyone.
But Katsuki almost died. And Izuku is here, just like he always has been.
So Katsuki closes his eyes and listens, to the sound of Izuku just being, to the breath on Katsuki's face as his hair tickles his forehead. He opens his heavy eyelids and stares into shining green, and he utters: “For a while.”
