    The smart lock on his front door trilled, and Raph’s rant instantly cut off, the room falling deadly silent. Leo locked eyes with his brother, and it was clear that Raph hadn’t been expecting anyone else; a quick glance at Takeshi confirmed the same. Like a well-oiled machine, they prepared for an attack—Raph slipped on his brass knuckles, Tiger Claw drew his gun from its holster, and Leo deeply regretted not getting one of his guns from the bedroom when he had a chance. Leo watched, unbreathing, unblinking, as the front door swung open.

    Not an enemy.

    Hamato Saki. Head of the Hamato family, a subsidiary of the Yuu-kai. Second in command of the Yuu-kai, just under the kumichō. Both Leo’s blood father and his oath father.

    In a world where the Hamato clan is a yakuza family and the turtles are human, Saki succeeds in killing Hamato Yoshi. Hamato Shen leaves for New York with Donnie and Mikey—leaving Leo and Raph behind. Over 15 years they became the Hamato family's most deadly members, until an assassination attempt sends them out of the country to protect a barely-remembered mother and brothers.

    Chapter 12 as of Feb 13 🥹

    God, this is actually like a really good and interesting fic. Like I’m all for mafia fics, so clicking on this was no surprise for me, but I’ve never read one about the Japanese mafia. I learned a lot about the Yakuza and Japan alone just by reading this.
    I fucking love Raph’s character in this, along with his brothers. (If you can’t tell I’m a sucker for Raphael) I can’t wait for this to update 🥹

    “Raphael,” she said gently. “I know it’s difficult for you to use the past tense-”

     

    “It’s not difficult, it’s just wrong,” Raph growled. He couldn’t look at her. This was the thing. The thing that made everyone look at him with pity. Like he was defective or broken. Like he was some stupid idiot who couldn’t get with the program.

     

    But it was everyone else who was wrong. Raph was the only one who was living in reality.

     

    “Leo. Isn’t. Dead.”

    It's been two years since Leo's disappearance. The city has erected a monument in Bryant Park to honor and mourn New York's bravest young hero.

    While Leo's statue sits in the park, Raph sits in therapy. Everyone believes Raph is too traumatized, too wounded to process the loss of his brother.

    But there's something Raph can't explain, something only he can feel, something everybody wants him to ignore. It whispers softly somewhere in the deepest corners of his mind: he's still here.

    Raph listens.

    Holy shit I think this actually re-wired my brain. Started reading this back in 2024 and I am now patiently waiting for updates. I never liked apocalypse AU’s but I actually REALLLLY liked this. Kind of Leo-centric, but not a problem at all. God definitely in my top 3 fav fics of all time
