Right now, he was looking him in the eye, only half-listening to what his love/nemesis had to say, talking about the Paranormal Liberation Front's ideology — something that Dabi didn't remotely care about — watching his lips move, how they smiled as he talked, a smile that captivated his many fans. All Hawks had to do was flash a smile and women all but scrambled to follow, screaming their love to the heavens, but Dabi knew better.They never looked at his eyes like he did, noticed how dull and glassy they were whenever he smiled for the camera, or how strained his lips were, teeth bared like an animal's.
But then, why would they? They didn't know what they were missing.

It’s not a way to get home that’s easier than catching a serial killer for the Qixing in exchange for a boat the Fatui refuses to give. It's not the money they promised as further compensation, and it's not bringing the gruesome killer whose crimes can only be described as pure evil to justice.
The only thing he wants is in the very nation he was ordered to leave, and after quickly finding the perpetrator, he found a way he can stay even longer. Taking the killer's place in committing murders so horrible it's unfathomable for most while "solving" the case to buy time getting this thing is no problem despite a certain lawyer always on his ass, nor is figuring out how to obtain something that’s already so willing to give himself to him.
All Childe wants is Zhongli, and he’s willing to do anything to get him. Anything, no matter what the cost may be.

I keep coming back to this story. It's dead dove and dark as hell, so I do recommend checking out the tags and author's notes before pursuing this, but the writing is genuinely so brilliant, so edge-of-my-seat, that when I do read it, I have to finish it again and again. Absolutely perfect, woahiohioh is a brilliant author.
