    The insurmountable sound of the roof caving in, the support beams failing, and the marble decorations shattering around him seemed to stop all at once. There was nothing but silence. Cold, abrupt, threatening silence.

    As quickly as it had begun, the disaster simply ceased.

    “Woah,” an unknown voice chimed, echoing through the rubble. A man smiled down at him, his expression bordering somewhere between surprised and amused. “You’ve caused quite a bit of chaos here, haven’t you?”

    After accidentally wreaking havoc inside a temple in the woods, Grian finds himself indebted to a god he doesn't know, as well as a strange man who calls himself the temple's priest.

    The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.

    “I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”

    With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.

    This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.

    “Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

    Grian is a vet. After a chance encounter in the dead of night, during which he accidentally saves a villain from the brink of death, he suddenly finds himself entangled in a world beyond anything he could've ever imagined.

    CuteGuy looked around Scar's apartment, smiling affectionately.
    He caught himself, realizing that his heart was in his eyes. It was a little embarrassing to be so unabashedly fond in front of HotGuy.
    Speaking of whom… the hero seemed to be breathing heavily. Maybe he’d pushed himself too hard to get here quickly.
    “Here, sit down for a minute. You look winded,” CuteGuy said, pointing him to the couch. “Let me get you something to drink.” He went straight for the cupboard to the right of the stove, where Scar kept the glasses.
    HotGuy sat down heavily, making a rasping noise in the back of his throat.
    Better hurry with that water, Grian thought.

    Or: Mumbo is out of town, Grian's apartment is being remodeled, and CuteGuy needs a safe place to preen his wings. Suddenly, HotGuy finds himself somewhere much too familiar.

    Just a glance and a nod and a quick polite smile. That’s all. Scar’s hazel-green eyes catch Grian’s for just an instant, and then he’s back to the rest of the group.
    Grian quietly takes a deep breath, willing his nerves to settle. He’s got butterflies, because of course he does. Of course one look at Scar still lights him up inside.

     

    It's been five years since Scar and Grian last saw each other - five years since their messy breakup just before graduation. But their class reunion is coming up, and Grian can't help but wonder what it will bring. Regret? Closure? Or something even better?
