"You're married?!"
The volcano, of course, being Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng rubbed his fingers against his temples.
Okay, maybe he should've handled this better.

Jiang Cheng’s mouth twists, because he knows it won’t happen.
It was already a fluke that Lan Xichen fell in love with him; it’s unlikely that Jiang Cheng will get this lucky twice over.
Sure, Jiang Cheng will fall in love again, eventually, that much he’s certain about—he always did love too easily, too quickly—but the reverse is much harder to come by.
And Jiang Cheng is definitely not going to hold his breath for it.

As far as Jiang Cheng was concerned, the Lans could all go fuck themselves. Turns out Wei Wuxian's soulmate was a Lan, and that bastard had turned him down. Had told him to get lost. Had told his soulmate, Jiang Cheng's precious brother, no. A fucking Lan dared to do that, in spite of their oh-so glorious reputation of waiting for their soulmates and only loving once.
He hadn't seen it happen, and would have punched the asshole in the face if he'd been there, but he found out when Wei Wuxian had come home early with red eyes, looking so deflated and miserable it broke Jiang Cheng's heart to see. After a quick conversation to confirm that yes, Wei Wuxian was sure it was Lan Wangji, he had seen the words on his arm and they matched, Jiang Cheng left Wei Wuxian in their sister's comforting arms and set out for blood.

“Does it ever bother you?” he asks out of the blue and Jiang Cheng stills.
“Wei Wuxian? Yes, all the goddamn fucking time, did you not listen to a word I just said?” he incredulously asks but Nie Huaisang shakes his head.
“No, that I’m in love with you,” he says and it’s so completely not what Jiang Cheng expected that he freezes for a good long minute.
“Because sometimes I think it does, but then things like today happen, and I get confused,” Nie Huaisang rambles when Jiang Cheng takes too long to answer and the shaky tone to his voice finally jolts Jiang Cheng out of his stupor.
“Excuse me, you’re in what now with who?” he asks, cutting Nie Huaisang off before he can say something else that doesn’t make sense and Nie Huaisang blinks at him.

The sun was high in the sky when Lan Xichen made his way through the maze of reeds to the spot he'd been returning to every day for weeks. As he neared the outcropping of rocks, he slowed, careful to not make a sound or get his antlers tangled up, and nosed through a gap to peak out at the beauty sleeping on top of the highest rock, soaking in the warmth of the sunlight.
Gorgeous black and purple scales gleamed in elegant coils, and a cute forked tongue flicked out now and then to taste the air. His heart skipped a beat at the sight, as it had done every time since the start. Such divine beauty this alluring snake possessed! It was enough to bring any dragon to the ground in worship. Lan Xichen's eyes widened when he spotted the string of glittering amethyst and sapphire gems wrapped snugly around the snake's tail.

Jiang Cheng can hear the tears in Jin Ling’s voice so he simply picks his nephew up and settles him down in his own lap. Normally Jin Ling would protest, he thinks he’s too old for something like this already, but today he clings to Jiang Cheng.
“That won’t happen,” Jiang Cheng tells him but Jin Ling shakes his head.
