Anya is rescued, plucked from the wreckage of the Tulpar without health, dignity, or sound mind. All that remains of her is a failing body, fraying tethers to reality and the remnants of a life that expired cocooned inside her.

In his dreams, Curly witnesses divine conception. Anya is as immaculate as she’s always been, her dark hair like a halo that crowns her head when she tosses it back. She cries the same way he thinks Mary might’ve, and the scene is anything but holy. He is witnessing the consummation of their sins, confined by the chains of his own mortality to bear witness to the Hell that he helped create.
It’s far more poetic of a retelling than what actually happens.
