“Never?” He repeated.
“What? Does that surprise you, Doc?”
Ratio tried to process everything, Aventurine just pulled the stem off of the cherry like it meant nothing, then it placed it between his teeth. “It’s not that groundbreaking, is it? I mean,” His eyes watched as it kept poking between his lips, before he continued. “If I just do it for work, then who really cares if I finish or not.”
“But Gambler,” He could feel himself get grey hairs because of him, “You do it all the time. For work.”
Aventurine shrugged, “I don't think I'm missing out much. Like, don't get me wrong. I’ve gotten close a few times but why waste my own time, yaknow?” Right as he finished speaking Aventurine spit the tied cherry stem into his martini glass. “I wouldn't want it becoming a bad habit now, would I.”
Or; Dr. Ratio helps Aventurine have an orgasm.

Ratio took it upon himself-- he multitasked and continued to suck while loosening Aventurine’s grip on the blanket, and placed the man’s hands into his hair again. His fingers practically melted into the touch, threading thoroughly as he instantly started pulling him closer. It felt nice, being needy like this.

For a moment Langa couldn’t breathe; he didn’t dare open his eyes. God. He had made such an embarrassing sound, such a horrible sound, but Reki still didn’t pull away. His fingers made soothing circles on Langa’s jaw as he kissed him again, chaste and sweet, just their lips against each other again like he knew he had overwhelmed Langa and was trying to say he was sorry.
[...]
Langa closed his eyes, listening to Reki’s breathing until it had evened out all the way, into a deep sleep. Then, finally, Langa allowed himself to kiss him one more time, on the knuckles, right where Reki had bitten them.

As Aventurine digested the words, Ratio looked at him for a reaction, “These… bugs, they’re trying mate but they keep releasing a chemical that's killing them.”
“Their own pheromones. Yes.”
“You were glowing because…”
Ratio’s frown deepened, an embarrassed expression trying to take over his face. But, Ratio managed to keep his composer nonetheless.
“I… tripped.”
Or; Aventurine drives Dr. Ratio up the mountainside for his expedition to study the effects of aphrodisiac production from an invasive species--that causes things to go south, very quickly.

Such a lucid feeling, not being fully in control of his body. Ratio was so gentle with him, and that's what was scaring him the most. The good doctor was only a friend, his only friend, he’s never even made advances towards Aventurine before. Yet it felt like free falling. This… dream his mind was fabricating for him, it was engulfing any other rational thought he's had about the other man. A deep part of him knew he craved something about Ratio, but like this? Aventurine knew he wanted to feel softer, he wanted to be held, he wanted to be important.

Stained hands. Hands that breach a gap thicker than quicksand to connect.
Bookmarked by Yandytch
15 Oct 2025
Bookmarker's Notes
An Alhaitham who is buried in himself, struck by the lightning that is the noise and colour of the everyday world: he twists the cord of his headphones around his finger, turning and turning.
The Cyno who sits beside him in silent companionship: he systematically replaces the backs on each card in his deck, as stolid as a Geo construct.
The Kaveh who is, at once, wounded by Alhaitham’s retreat: they shear away from him like a collapsing cliff, because hurt is hurt and inflicts itself without consideration.
The Tighnari who is torn between the world of Collei’s Akademiya scholarship and the stress of his complicated family: he runs a frustrated hand through his hair, turning to the safety of his greenhouse.
...
Foolish hands. Hands that smack away the gifts and well-wishes of others, when the pain overwhelms.
It is Kaveh whose tears dot and blur the script on her blueprints. It is Kaveh who cannot hold back his wail of frustration, crumpling the paper between his hands and casting it out the window.
It is Cyno whose blood irrevocably stains the ends of his headpiece. It is Cyno, losing himself to work; it is Cyno, destroying himself through work, chasing a dream of justice that will never come true.
It is Tighnari whose shaking fingers grip the records left by Karkata’s first master. It is Tighnari who harms himself by turning to the stone-cold past, reading again and again words that do not change.
It is Alhaitham whose messy corners stoke furious arguments. It is Alhaitham who descends into heavy silence, forgetting even the warmth once offered by his grandmother.
Giving hands. Hands, turned away, coming back again to offer something perfectly unwavering.

Three sharp knocks punctuate the pitter-patter of the rain outside. Strange. Ratio isn’t expecting any deliveries or guests at this hour. He peers through the peephole and freezes.
Three long years after his disappearance in Penacony, Aventurine stands at Ratio’s doorstep with a casual, lopsided grin.
Unthinkable. Unbelievable. Unimaginable.
Numb fingers open the door before caution can intervene. Aventurine, the eternal outlier, opens his mouth.

And maybe now, in Spirits and Such at not-quite-lunch o’clock, would be the perfect time to say it, to just open his mouth just say -

“I think I’d like that,” Serizawa says, pausing as Reigen takes his hands off his face quickly. “To… do those things; remind you to take off your binder, or when your shots are.”

Summary
Reigen never planned on having kids. His relationships have always been short and shallow, he doesn't really care for the idea of marriage (except for the tax breaks), and that's without even considering his lack of interest in women. Reigen can barely take care of himself half the time. The point is, he’d make a terrible parent.
Letting Teruki stay on his spare futon after the kid’s apartment was destroyed during the Claw attack was an impulse decision. Reigen never had any illusions that he was a good guy, but he wasn’t such an asshole that he’d let a fourteen-year-old stay on the streets alone. They'd find Teru's parents any day now, and everything would go back to normal. Teru's lack of concern over their whereabouts was weird, but surely no parent in their right mind would ever leave their kid on his own without even a phone call to let him know they were alive.
Right?

“Don’t worry,” Reigen says, with way more conviction than he’s really feeling. “I’m not just going to take off. I’ll be here no matter what happens.”
Can he really promise that? Is that really something he can say with certainty? Reigen’s life is a series of commitment issues and instability. He doesn’t have the experience and knowledge someone taking such a serious role in a kid’s life should have. Almost everything he knows he had to teach himself, half of his skills remnants of rapidly changing interests, with no support network aside from a group of middle schoolers and an ex-terrorist, and self-hatred that pervades his thoughts at the very idea of commitment. He’s inevitably going to screw this up. But he can’t say that.
This time is going to be different, he promises himself despite the hundreds of uncertainties screaming at him to find a way out. This time he’s going to see this through to the end.
[...]
He and his chair are enveloped in a transparent iridescent bubble he recognizes after a few seconds as Serizawa’s. He focuses past the barrier he can see Serizawa calmly talking with a client near the door. Reigen can’t hear a word they’re saying even though they’re less than ten feet away, and it takes him a moment to realize that was most likely the purpose behind the barrier. It’s completely silent here, no humming of the ventilation system or murmuring sounds of the other businesses in the building. He’s been encased in a soundproof little space almost definitely designed to let him continue sleeping.
Reigen reaches out and lightly places the tips of his fingers to the barrier’s surface. It ripples lightly at his touch, shimmering outwards like ripples in a still pond. His hand passes harmlessly through it, reforming itself when he pulls his hand back inside.
It’s beautiful.
It almost physically hurts, this genuine kindness after everything that’s been happening. The stress in Reigen’s life has been building slowly like a geyser waiting to erupt without much of a reprieve ever since the Claw attack. Everything’s been changing so rapidly.
[...]
Serizawa stares at the pavement, eyebrows tightly knitted together .“If you ever need to talk… um, I’d be happy to listen, Reigen-san. You’ve done so much for me, it would be the least I could do. Not that it would be a bother! I just, uh, I just wanted to offer.”
“Thanks, Serizawa. Sometime soon I might take you up on it.” And Reigen is surprised to find that he means it.

easy to sling insults in the face of frustration
pretending it doesn’t mean that much to you.
hard to say, please, i need this,
to hold your arms open for the hug you crave.
easy to make yourself small in the wake
of your parents.
hard to discard the words
yes, i’m fine. really.
you deserve better than your own performance.
you’re scared. every day, you’re terrified.
you’re not your body. your mind. not even your buildings.
you’re more than that.
let your legacy be kisses on wrists
laughter bouncing off the walls of lambad’s tavern
and the family you chose for yourself.
there’s romance in these passing days
so set aside your exhaustion for an evening
and settle against them, every day,
different versions of the people who hold you beloved
who will be loved by you.
here is the truth:
you cannot escape this world unloved.

Bookmarker's Notes
His hands drop from the Gambler’s face, dropping below the surface of the water. Tentatively, he feels the other’s ribs, stomach, his waist, his back, the spine and scapula and muscle that ripples beneath the skin. He rests his palms carefully, and the Gambler tilts his head.
Warm. The warmest hands, warmest gaze, warmest feeling. Warm, lovely, dearest Kakavasha.
Veritas feels his eyes flutter shut when warm lips find his forehead, then the corner of his eye, the bridge of his nose, his mouth, his chin. Kakavasha finds every cold, exposed spot and brings warmth in every measure.
“You’re very warm,” Veritas murmurs.
Kakavasha laughs against his skin. “That’s good. You are, too.” With that, he tips them back and presses his lips against Veritas’ forehead as the water comes over their heads.
[...]
For now, with the moon quietly rising above their heads and the water dappled with its reflection, he splashes and chases and is kissed and his face held within warm hands with little worry. It is endlessly warm.

They kissed maybe the third or fourth time they met. Slept together the time after that. That was the first time. The second came soon after that, then the third, fourth, fifth.
Their formula was quick and rough. They weren’t kind to each other. They weren’t gentle. Aventurine liked it that way. He was content with it, he was, but now Ratio is soft with him, and Aventurine likes that so much more. It’s terrifying.

Bookmarker's Notes
In the morning, it’s a sensation in his fingertips. It’s sunlight slipping in through the curtains. It’s Ratio’s stupid sleeping face. His eyelashes. The crack in his lower lip.
Aventurine gets out of bed first.
The sun has risen, but only barely. It’s cold, but only a little bit. Aventurine is used to worse. He curls his hands over the cool railing and takes a breath deep enough to make his lungs ache. He exhales. He closes his eyes and he thinks about so many things.
Hair like his, eyes like his, smiles like his. Roasted apples. Sticky fingers, lost teeth. Tired, fond sighs. Hands ruffling his hair. Voices singing to him night after night. Calling him Kakavasha. Teaching him words and songs and stories. Guiding him by the hand. Holding him.
He folds his arms over the railing and ducks his head into them, breathing, hiding from the world. Why is this terrifying? Why does this almost hurt? It shouldn’t, he knows it shouldn’t, and yet, and yet.
The sound of a screen door sliding open. Footsteps. A warm hand on his shoulder.
“It’s cold,” says Aventurine’s greatest fear. “You’ll make yourself ill. Come back inside.”

Bookmarker's Notes
At some point, it becomes habit. Aventurine pushes. Veritas pushes back, but he's never... mean, exactly. The first time they sleep together, Aventurine tells him it's because you're a bitch, but at least you treat me like I'm human. He said that in passing. A laugh between bruises. Veritas has never really stopped thinking about it.
[...]
Am I not allowed to want to treat you gently?""No! No one wants that, No one has ever wanted that! Why would you—"
"I do!" Veritas shouts, slamming his hand into the door beside Aventurine's shoulder. Aventurine goes silent, staring, just staring. Veritas lets out a breath and lets his hand fall, straightening up. "I do," he repeats, calmer. "I have."
He leans back, smoothing his hands down Veritas' front to fix the rumpled cloth. "Good one, Doctor," he says. "You're funny, but you don't mean that. You—"
"Aventurine!" Veritas slams him into the door by the shoulders, watching him wince, watching him get angry again, because it seems that roughness is the only thing Aventurine knows how to respond to, how to process, how to believe in. He goes quiet. His eyes flit over Veritas' face, searching, studying.
"You're serious," he says, and the fight slips out of him at once.
His eyes are tired. Cracks all over his facade. Aventurine has stopped pretending. He is tired and hurt.
Veritas thumbs a line across his cheek. "You're so sure of that," he says. Fond, frustrated. "Why are you so sure of that? Where's your evidence?"
