Summary
The mattress dipped slightly, then Zoey crawled beneath the covers and wrapped her arms around Rumi from behind. She could still smell the sweet strawberry scent of her shampoo from hours before. Her hands were small, but a soft warmth radiated from where they rested on the bare skin of Rumi’s stomach; an unfamiliar sensation, sure, but not a new one.
This was not the first time Zoey had come to Rumi’s bed in the middle of the night, but it was something she was still getting used to.

“Um, I don’t know. Taking a bath? Isn’t that what you normally do in a bathhouse?” Rumi flung up her hands in exasperation. The way they were both looking at her with confused expressions was starting to make her feel like she was the crazy one, but there was no way that was true, right? “I mean, it’s literally called a bath house. Unless there’s some weird innuendo about bathhouses that I don’t know about, I’m not sure how I was supposed to interpret it as anything else.”
Mira and Zoey exchanged a glance, and realization slowly crept into each of their expressions.
“I guess if she didn’t know we’d been fucking, it tracks that she wouldn’t realize that ‘want to go to the bathhouse’ was just an invitation for sex,” Mira said casually, making air quotes with her hands.

Letting out a long sigh, Kanade shut her laptop and leaned back into the couch, eyes wandering around the cluttered room before finally settling on the front door. She searched for some flicker of movement through the clouded windows, waited for the sound of jingling keys or the familiar creak of the doorknob, but the door remained firmly shut, just as it had been for the last several hours. At this point, Kanade recognized, it likely wasn’t going to open for the rest of the night.
Maybe, she thought to herself, I’ll wait out here for a little while longer.
