So yes, it wasn’t James’s fault. This was all Regulus. It was his decision to fuck his roommate (and his brother’s best friend) because he just couldn’t contain his feelings and keep it in his damn pants for a moment longer. And now, James was going to leave, and take Regulus's heart in the process.
He was so wrapped up in his thoughts that he didn’t hear the footsteps of James entering the room again until the mattress dipped.
“What-?” he gasped, turning quickly around, pulling a blanket up to his waist.
“Shh,” James mumbled soothingly, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. “Just me, love.”

He looked at Sirius again, at his wide eyes. The next thing that was wrong was his breathing, which was quickening. In addition, he pulled his arm out of Remus's grasp as if it had burned him
Remus pulled away immediately.
Was Sirius afraid of him?
He looked at his friend once again.
Sirius immediately looked away, staring at the floor. His heart still racing.

When he was 30, he was teaching potions at Hogwarts, which was going swell, until one day when Harry Potter (aka the carbon copy of the boy whose heart he shattered) strolls into the Great Hall and effectively sends Regulus into a full blown panic.
