Summary
Castiel blinks down at the letter in surprise. He’s not a royal, nor an advisor. Castiel’s place here is honorary, and, he thinks, precarious. Castiel, who sometimes still feels he is only here because he was the betrothed of the Crown Prince of Haven. The very same Crown Prince who has been neither seen nor heard from in six, almost seven years. The Prince they buried.
Castiel takes the letter with trembling hands, and flips it back over. Past the formalities addressed to King John Winchester of Haven lie only two words.

Whenever Cas and Dean argued, any of their friends would remind them: You’re the Dean to his Cas. You’re the Cas to his Dean. At the lows of their relationship, the phrase became a reminder of everything they had to hold on to.
After The Mistake, any and all talk of their relationship ceased. Cas and Sam remained friendly, but Dean shut down at any mention of his former lover.
Months later, a romance novel, The Michael to My James, was published, and it reached NY Times’ Best Seller List in days. The title itself had given Dean pause, but when he read the author’s name in fine print underneath, he refused to even read the blurb. He continued to avoid reading the book until he was asked specifically to audition for the movie adaptation.
Dean didn’t want to star in a movie about his own life, but work was work. However, what he didn’t realize was that the person who would be starring right alongside him, as his love interest, was the author himself. Castiel freakin’ Novak.

Summary
Dean has been working as a getaway driver for Crowley for 14 years, and has survived by developing a few simple rules: always pick the right music, keep an eye on the time, never give out his real name, and most importantly, make no personal connections with anyone on the job.
Making no personal connections with anyone new is easy when he has difficulty talking in his own words.
Enter Cas, who, in order to pay for his nephew Jack’s life-saving medical treatment, decides to break bad by joining Crowley’s operations. Unlike most of his brothers, he’s new to the world of crime, but their driver’s skills and quiet demeanor have a way of reassuring him.
Throughout the course of several months, their rules fall to the wayside as they fall for each other, each unable to say the words ‘I love you’ for differing reasons.
Cas’ past family life complicates things when Lucifer comes around wanting to know how Cas is getting the money to pay for Jack’s treatment. Everything comes to a head when Dean is kidnapped for one final job.

Sam's aware there's a conversation going on that he isn't privy to — and he's used to it, by this point — but it's still rude.
