“I’m sorry,” Eddie says, putting the glass of water down. He’s shaking, too, Buck can’t help but notice. Buck wants to reach out, but he literally cannot move, and he lets Eddie step away, walking back to his chair and he falls back on it. “Sorry,” he says again, his voice barely a breath.
Buck shakes his head, opening his mouth to say something but nothing comes out. What can he say, really? Sorry, Eds, I thought you were my kidnapper standing over me! So he sighs, head going down to his chest and he winces, both from the pain and from bringing that hurt look on his best friend’s face. “I-I got startled,” he says, voice creaking as he speaks.
Eddie waves him off, “It’s-It’s okay,” stutters, fidgeting with his fingers. “I got close,” he says, gesturing to him, the bed and the glass of water on the table. A moment of silence passes

He felt Liu Sang holding his hand tightly and looked at him. A-Cu was already holding his bicep tightly, his head on Xie Yuchen’s shoulder as tears silently made way to his pink shirt. They all knew the inevitable but none of them spoke about it out loud. When they reached the Wu residence, none of them moved.
