Summary
As the summer of 1885 breathes its last, oppressive breath, the Van der Linde Gang sets up camp outside a thriving rail town, seeking out new scores before they inevitably move on. When Arthur Morgan is discovered scouting a job by the local mill owner's daughter, Mary Gillis, his world is transformed—in the midst of escalating violence and risk as the gang moves from petty schemes to more brazen endeavors, he finds himself falling in love with her.
In the years that follow their fateful meeting, both Arthur and Mary are forced to reckon with loss, loyalty, the vast difference in the worlds they’ve known, and whether love alone can be enough to overcome the many forces pulling their lives in opposite directions.

Summary
Silence seats itself between you again. The distant foghorn of a boat—some steam ship traveling the waterway to ferry the goods of industry, no doubt—startles the birds in the trees across the river. Driven from their perches, they take off in frantic flight, floating silhouettes black and crisp against the purple sky. You both watch them fly off, tracking their graceful, arcing escape until they disappear downriver to find a safer roost.
"I got a room, next to the gunsmith." With two quick puffs on a cigarette shortly devoured by the burning glow at its tip, Arthur shifts his weight to the opposite leg. "Come after dark."
You turn to look behind you, eyes on the fiery clouds hanging low above the western horizon. "That'll be soon."
"I know." He flicks the glowing butt into the water. "I ain't got time enough to wait longer n'that."
You and Arthur find something short of comfort in one another against the desolate backdrop of Annesburg's smog and grime.

Summary
Your back is still pressed against the coarse masonry of the building which towers above you both, the sun shielded by its bulk and your faces cast with shadows. The alley feels more cramped and claustrophobic than ever as he closes the remaining distance between you and grips your jaw firmly in his hand.
”You didn’t see nothin’.” His voice is deep and rough, as if abraded by the same elements that have carved his rugged, weather-worn features. “D’we understand each other?”
“Y-yes, of course, I-”
“Good girl.” He cares for nothing but the affirmative response and quickly cuts you off. Releasing your chin, he gently pats your cheek, leaving behind tacky fingerprints of blood that send electricity arcing through your skin.
A suffragette campaigning on the streets of Saint Denis, you witness Arthur commit an act of violence that awakens something within you.

Summary
Just as you make a move toward your pistol, he reaches out as quick as a rattlesnake making its strike and snatches your wrist.
“I like your spunk, but if you think you could grab that gun and get even a single shot off before I shoot you dead, you gotta ‘nother thing comin’.” The threat doesn’t feel idle, and his other hand twitches next to an off-hand holster cradling a sawed-off shotgun.
You twist your arm, trying to break free, but he just tightens his grip. The leather of his rifleman glove burns and tugs at your skin as you writhe against the handcuff of his powerful fingers.
While running the clinic in Strawberry, you help Arthur with a serious injury...but it soon takes a dark turn into a twisted game.

Summary
There were a thousand different things he should tell Mary. Arthur knew that. He’d known it for weeks. Most of them were in conflict with each other and twisted together with what he wanted and what he believed about himself, and all that was clouded by the certainty of the end he would face. He hadn’t even trusted himself with the thought of her for fear of what he’d do or say. That precious dream had crumbled in his hands, demolished by his own misguided choices. And yet, he had gathered up the pieces that were left and still clung to them like they were the only lifeline he had...
As things with the gang come to a head, Arthur hears some hard advice from a friend in the face of impossible decisions about what he wants for himself and those around him. Meanwhile, Mary receives a letter that takes her to Annesburg in a last-ditch effort to save her chance at a life with Arthur before it slips through both their fingers again.
An alternate ending to Chapter 6.

Summary
Arthur Morgan had been with the Van der Linde gang for just shy of eight years, and his loyalty to those who gave him refuge and purpose was not to be questioned. After sneaking out of Chicago following havoc they may have inadvertently caused, the gang move from bustling Illinois to the prairie fields of northern Kansas and are in need of money. Looking for honest work to keep his hands clean as a newcomer of the state, Arthur gets a job at Old Stone Ranch, owned by one esteemed but covetous and dour entrepreneur and businessman, Henry Gillis. What Arthur soon learns is that the ranch is a family business set to pass down to Gillis’ eldest child, Mary, who Arthur takes a liking to. As the duo from two different worlds get closer and closer, Arthur is forced to reflect on where his loyalties lie: can he fight and change for the woman he loves despite all odds, or continue giving in to the outlaw life he has been moulded to fit into?
Or: An interpreted story on how Arthur and Mary met, fell in love and ultimately fell apart.
