Summary
The summer he is eight years old, Armin finds himself under the care of Erwin, a local army veteran. What starts out as childish infatuation gradually shifts into something else, a secret that will haunt him for the rest of his life. When Armin's best friend, Eren, returns from summer camp, he wakes in his basement one rainy night with a bloody nose and no memory of the last few hours. He finds himself obsessed with discovering what happened to him that day.
As they both grow older, the trauma of that summer unravels, afflicting them in different, insidious ways. Eren's reality becomes clouded in conspiracy, while Armin finds a masochistic comfort in sex. To protect Eren, and himself, he hides the truth, but he knows it can't stay buried.
