Sheer masculinity might be half the reason Raphael has trouble following the leader. On some biological level, being the biggest, heaviest monster around might just *feel* like it ought to make him the defacto 'alpha.' But then Red Turtle's strange stomach pains persist for over a week, leading Donatello to conduct an ultrasound to see if it's cancer...
It's not cancer.
The remarkably unsexy fiction is inspired by the real life science of turtles. Like how a turtle's sex is determined! Spoiler alert: It's a lot more wibbly wobbly than in mammals, and doesn't even use XY chromosomes.

The long story of a young turtle, his overprotective uncles, and the nutcase named 'Wildcard' who is now his only friend.
"Saaaaandro! Tell your uncle he's hooottt!" a maniac called helpfully from where she was sitting side-saddle on the nose of a crane above them in a hurricane. "And needs to put a shirt on before he blinds the ladddiess!"

Summary
None of them heard a goddamn thing, except for Leo. 'Course he did. Apparently being blind had given him echolocation or magic powers or something.
Set in a future in which the Foot took over the East Coast for over a decade. The three surviving turtles have finally killed Shredder, but remain bitter, jaded, scarred, and more than a little distrusting of humanity. Lots of hurt/comfort/psychology/fraternal love/infighting. Involves a baby.
