Leo blamed the Foot Clan. And Shredder. And Big Mama. "Besides, I'm sure he had a change of heart. Right, Lechuga?"
They both looked at Usagi expectantly. The rabbit took his time, twirling the pen in his fingers for a moment, before finally sighing. And in that same, emotionless voice, he announced:
"My boss fucking died."

Summary
In the race of romance, Luca’s always coming in last. Giulia’s in a steady relationship with her girlfriend and Alberto’s been in more relationships than Luca can count. Luca’s never been with anyone and he’s a year into college now. When Alberto shares that he simply has the knack for romance, Luca asks him for romance lessons. Luca hopes it won’t take a lot of practice because there’s only one boy Luca wants to love like that.
AU where the events of the movie happened ~2010s, so at the end of the events of the movie all three went to school together, inspired by the song “The Knack” by Mother Mother.

Luca Paguro had had anxiety his entire life. He always felt like one wrong move would completely ruin him, so he learned to stay out of the sun. Even though he wanted nothing more than to make a friend, or finally gain the courage to talk to Giulia Marcovaldo, he knew it would all be for nothing. The moment he spoke, they would know he was weird and different. Even he knew he was weird and different. He just didn't know how different he was. At least, not until a boy with eyes the color of sea glass came into his life.
Alberto Scorfano always knew he was useless. He knew he was the person who ruined everything, the person everyone grew tired of. So he found it pointless to make friends when they would eventually leave him... Just like his dad had. It's not like he did it on purpose. He probably just wasn't as interesting as he thought he was. And the only interesting thing about him, he had to keep a secret. There was no way anyone here would accept someone like him. Though those thoughts always swam around in his head, it was growing incredibly hard to ignore the doe-eyed boy that always had his head in the stars.Bookmarked by ashmatics

“Giulia. Coffee?” Luca asks from his seat at the kitchen table, in what he hopes is a pathetic enough tone that she’ll make it for him. Giulia gives him a sympathetic look over her shoulder, her hair already tied up in a messy bun. A curl bounces at her temple as she shakes her head.
“Sorry, Luca. All out.”
“Giulia…”
“It's fine, I have a better idea. You know where the science building is?” Luca nods as Giulia is already scribbling the directions on an old pizzeria-flyer, “There’s a little campus cafe just on the far side of the grass, you know where people sometimes study? My brother works there, just tell him I sent you and he’ll sort you out with something. You'll be caffeinated in no time.”
(Luca needs coffee and Alberto has coffee. Seems like a simple enough equation for something that ends up being anything but.)

With new sea folk moving to the surface, new romances blossoming everywhere, and his nonstop intrusive thoughts about his best friend, Alberto is having a hard time keeping up this summer. Especially, when said best friend is entering into one of those blossoming romances without him.

Underneath the sheeted darkness of night, the creatures that lurked beneath the Rivera's shallow waters ravaged the town, kidnapping and feasting on locals who didn't know better. He was tired of feeling afraid for his family, tired of being helpless against the havoc they ran. He knew how dangerous they were, he 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 how risky it was, but he didn't care. He was determined on finding a sea monster as soon as possible: and killing it.

So. Here are the facts as you see them.
Fact number one: Giulia is going to be on the train for Genova in two days. She's going back home--because Genova is her home, apparently, and you're still grappling with the idea that there are places outside your island and Portorosso, BIG ones, they keep telling you, all over the globe--where she'll spend the next nine or so months going to school.
Fact number two: You and Luca now own your very own Vespa. It's not road-ready yet, and it might not be for a while, which is fine actually because it turns out now that the Paguros aren't going to send Luca away to the bottom of the ocean, you're going to have to whittle them down into giving him permission to run away with you.
Fact number three: That's not even really a plan that makes sense, if you think about it for more than a few minutes at a time.
Fact number four: You haven't forgotten that Luca doesn't actually want to run away with you anymore. He's just pretending he never said it.
