Every interaction of the strikers was added to her puzzle pieces - not that they were making any sense, be it separately or together.
Josten and Day were the frightening duo they were known as on the court but even off the court, they stuck together. They were friendly enough with most everyone else but it was Day who tossed Josten an electrolyte drink, Josten who taped up Day’s calf, and the two of them who arrived and left together every day without fail.

Andrew lifted an eyebrow, and it tore a jagged hole in Kevin’s composure. How disconcerting it was to not know exactly what these eyes on him, this slight raise of a brow, meant.
Kevin had devoted a decade to learning Riko’s body language. He always knew what was brewing behind those dark eyes, what the slight tip of his head indicated. Kevin knew when to pull back to avoid the shrapnel from his coming explosion, knew when his rage was malleable enough for Kevin to risk pushing closer – rolling the dice on defusing his vitriol.
For Riko, this raise of an eyebrow was impatience, and it dragged Kevin into a memory so sharp it pricked his lungs with every shallow inhale he managed.

Neil’s response is so automatic he couldn’t have taken it back if he wanted to. “And you loved him for it.”
